Most of what jellyellie says in the so-called code of ethics is simply 'common sense'. I have problems, however, with her "thou shalt copyright your BJack phrases and not use others' phrases". This is like Donald Trump (of The Apprentice) saying he was going to trademark/copyright the phrase "You're Fired!" Copyright doesn't work that way in the USA. Besides, half the fun here is sharing the ideas and phrases we've used and trying new ones. Finally, why should the final message be a link to HER site? A community of many (ESATO) is much better than a community (and ego) of one (Bluejackq). That's my two cents.

my bloojack messages do not refer to any website or any person. why on earth should they.
and why on earth does everybody take a few 'guidelines' on another site so seriously. they're nothing but that... guidelines

i only put the link to jelly's site so that agenthambo would get an idea of what is acceptable bahaviour and what is not, rather than have countless reiterations of the bloody obvious. quite simply, you DO NOT send any form of offensive material to ANYONE, especially complete strangers. jelly's ideas are just plain common sense (which seems to be pretty uncommon these days).
as for the moral indigation displayed in a couple of responses, learn your history - or more specifically, jelly's history. however i will say that i personally disagree with the "copyright" thing, even though it's probably just intended to inspire creativity. if a tag line is funny then it's funny and doesn't matter who uses it, although situation specific bluejacking has more impact. and if she wants to ask her own readers to promote her site, then where's the harm?

I agree that sending abusive messages via Bluetooth shouldn't be done, it's scary enough to receive a message from an unknown person, let alone it saying "Did you go ten rounds with the ugly boxer?" or much worse. However, I think the world is going mad over political correctness - telling a girl that she's got a nice arse is hardly a crime, and certainly not something to get your knickers in a twist about.
How about if you'd walked up to the girl and said "Hey, nice arse" -would it still constitute sexual harassment? If so, then surely it would be worse than the Bluejack because she'd know who'd said it, rather by receiving an innocent message telling her the same thing. If people can't be good-natured enough to take a compliment from someone, then what on earth has the world come to? |

I dare say it's a VERY long stretch from sending 'nice arse' (which I have done on occassion ) to sending the goatse man
And I agree.... not being offensive should be common sense but it appears that a growing number of people thinks that being anonymous is a free ticket to harassment in any form and this is one trend that scares me quite a bit and that could set a negative precedent for bluejacking

Any idea for good names?
PS I've already done Phil McCrackin and Ben Dover and Billy Willy Asshat - should I send more or leave it at that?

For phone names, I will use 'Queue-T-Pi' or 'Uranus Stinks'. OK, I know they're slightly obtuse, but what do you expect for a rocket scientist!
For good clean fun, try sending 'SMILE! It increases your face value.'
The victim always breaks out in a huge grin. It's pretty tough to offend folks with that one.

I've not been able to think up a good name for my phones Bluetooth.. im constantly changing it because im never satisfied with it.
I want something funny, but with some class, not something cheap like 'Hugh Janus'
