I believe its not only for geeks
As you can see in Canonical's statement, they are aiming at the lower end and high end segment (so no mid range ubuntu phones?)
I thing this might be a really good idea and it also reminds about a statement from Sony Exec not long ago
Low end for market share - making phone with low cost and selling mass
High end for profit - this will make the manufacturers toward ubuntu
Also, Im excited about another open platform entering the market
cuz most of the up coming OS might be closed of haft controled like BB10, WP9 ? and Tizen
Firefox OS is only for low end, so Im not interest in it |

Hahaha I think we will hit 200 pages before the CES event even starts
Btw all high end 2013 Xperia models feature OptiContrast Panel
Ubuntu sounds cool though, Sony should definitely not miss out if ubuntu does turn out to be successful.

Wow, so much debate about whether Yuga has a shutter button or not. Some pics seem to support the idea that it does, but the front shot doesn't.
I hope Sony has a slew of accessories to debut alongside these phones! I wonder how long it'll be before we see real pics taken with the 13mp cameraas well. |

I wish to see Bluetooth headset equipped with the latest 4.0 core version.
(ahem.... something like HBH-IS800 with MW600 quality )
Would be a perfect match for waterproof handset, even though Odin look more fabulous to me.

Sony can do VERY well with a mid-range and high-end BOOM BOX speaker system with incredible RMS watt power range and perfect mids/highs - using NFC for pairing and Bluetooth 4.0 for streaming!!

You mean something to compete with JayBird's latest offering with 10hrs playback time?!
This is sad since SonyEricsson debuted Bluetooth (Thank you Ericsson!) and Sony has been lagging. They can rise to the top with a suggestion above, and a new range of at least 3 BT Stereo headphones.

Ubuntu sure will be the leader
i just need to make it to my old ACER laptop first and try it myself |

I don't even understand how people even think that ubuntu demo looks good, I think it looks like crap in my opinion. Why even bother? Now we have Mozilla OS, Tizen OS, Ubunt OS and a bunch of other ideas out there, stop it, go away, leave....
Tizen will fail as if it did not appear
Mozilla is simply low end
i see a lot of reviews about the Ubuntu desktop OS , simply wow
i guess it will be a main competitor in smart phone/ phablets / tablets market sooner
honestly i myself just start to download the desktop version on my laptop to see
this laptop is my small lab.
from apple to windows to chrome to redhat
i will try to see Ubuntu myself but if i found myself agree with all around agreement on how significant this OS is
it is simply i will put it even on my future Yuga

After last post, I do some research and found that Sony has been introduced new line of headset including XBA-BT75 in early 2012, but somehow it doesn't appealing to me. (XBA-3 / 4 is affordable most attracting if Logitech UE900 is out of my reach)
As for OS, I would pick for MeeGo which back from death after Nokia has given up,
very good base structure need to build some basic eco-system (the hardest part)

Tizen OS, alternative OS for Samsung but Android still maximize their profit, and they would focus investing even more to keep level of competition high. They need to put a lot of money up for R&D products Technologies (AMOLED / EXYNOS) and factory expansion also. If they going to launch Tizen OS within a year, I guess it will has same suffering faith as Bada OS anyone remember?.
Mozilla and Ubantu OSes, both are very long term open-sources project, still need more polishing before hit mass market. Both may rise up the challenge in entry level smartphone area. Android OS is resource-hog and require sort of decent hardware to work properly, basic hardware like Snapdragon S1 for example it work but painfully experience for user I see this as they weakness.
just my two cents haha!!

I think if Ubuntu wants to be more popular they should work more to have more apps... as easy as integrating the Dalvik VM... oppa then it will be very easy for the developers to port their already ready Android apps to Ubuntu Mobile OS...
They should work on this really seriously if they want to success... but I doubt they will even think about catching Android even with Dalvik VM...

good point and just wow , so simple just import it Android and export it Ubuntu
for my thought Ubuntu will turn to be much more great if it is just for some brands not all
exclusive , it will give it some strong point to those brands loyal
they said hp , dell & Asus but they are all not even tier - 2 players in the mobile phone / phablets
tables may be for only Asus , so they need a major tier -1 player to be exclusive with as I-OS to the iphone

@Tizen exactly my same feeling and as Samsung is greedy and they just wanna money out of crap so it is simply died and we will see in the near future it will be over
@MeeGo / Jolla sailfish i think they just low end smart phone same as Mozilla as they are all simple in use , nothing special in any of them
@Ubantu i think it will turn to be high end OS by time , as it has all the platform and start gain companies , so it is just time , it will not any day soon take those steps Android take , but by time Android versions turn to be not much different from each other , this time will be the good time for the Ubantu to appear , it will face a lot then from the 2 main major Android & I-OS but it will path MS WPs just like that |

@maiaramdan, sadly it's not as simple as import and export, but it still much much easier than using a completely different SDK and development language... they will still need some minor changes ( for the different UI and some other differences ) but the core functionality should be the same...
