@GUCCI

I suppose you are right. The experience was rather disappointing.

I am off to Vodashop now. Hopefully I won't be enticed by something else. One thing I am certain about is it won't be an SE.

Nokia's N900 is now on sale here:

Just as when the 5800 first came out, it's not available as a PAYG option at Carphone Warehouse at this stage.

@ Gucci:
It appears that Qualcomm are certainly not sitting on their laurels :

Well, I went to Vodashop and got me a spanking brand new Blackberry Bold 9700.

It is a step up from the 8520 my sister has. The keypad is the same size but designed differently thus making it much better to type on, more like the P1 but not as good as the wider Bold 9000. The processor is fast in executing almost all the tasks though there is a slight delay in opening the messages tab, not much but about a second or two. Coming from a P1i that takes about 2 or 3 seconds it is not an issue. The build quality is my major gripe, the Curve 8520 is better built IMO whereas the 9700 feels a bit cheaply done.

It is, however, not going to be my main phone as the P1 is simply brilliant as slow as it is. The fact that the P1's home screen is a short cut to everything you need makes it excellent by today's standards, plus I still need that QWERTY touchscreen combo with Android to retire my P1. Hopefully SE becomes profitable and stable with great phones so that I can get that P1-like phone coming in Q2.

Congrats on getting that new Bold 9700, Dups! Impressive specs.

Symbian spurned yet again, Gucci..

LOL, I still think that I'll be getting a S60V5 handset at some point in the future, but I'm also in no rush to replace my P1i either..

Congrats on your BB! ,lol you dont seem that excited about it though,im sure it will grow on you over time,and will be using it as your main device but i do get what you mean about touchscreen,its so much more covenient navigating around the Menus and Web browsing with it,and i love the Handwriting.
Hows the web browsing on your new 9700? Have you installed any apps yet?
Wanqs
Atleast we're staying faithful to Symbian . Sounds like the P1 has been treating you well there after getting the 5800 im now confident that when i upgrade il get another S60v5, think il delay the upgrade to late Dec 2010,or early 2011,wait for them Symbian^2 and ^3 devices to show.

Thanks, wanqs!

Yeah, I did try the E72 at the shop and it was really, really nice but me and S60 will never compliment each other. Maybe Symbian 3.

I have to say that the P1i is a great phone. One never realizes that until you try out a new or different phone. UIQ was just too far ahead of the competition and SE's decision to incorporotate the physical QWERTY keypad plus the touchscreen function in the phone was just a stroke of genius.

It will take something really special to replace this phone.

@GUCCI

Thanks! Coming from a P1 the 9700's browser is brilliant, loads faster and handles pages smoothly. On rare occasions it didn't load some pages properly but other than that I am quite impressed.

You're right though that I am not too thrilled, it just feels like an ordinary phone with nothing special. No I haven't loaded anything yet just playing around with it.

Yeah, looking at easy or 'gold' cellphone numbers on eBay, some do fetch insane amounts of money. Incredible.
