So carkitter, did you get anything new for your birthday?

Well I got something I've been after for a while: an egg poacher which is not that easy to come by these days.
And I got some of my favourite licorice, plus my kids drew me some pictures. Licorice is something I used to give my dad as it was a favourite of his too. The G705 makes up for some of the rough times lately.

Anyone want to buy a Dongling D801 (Xperia X1 copy)?
How could you say to your friends, "Check out my Dongling!" with a straight face...

So you guys are all voting in the Esato awards right? Hopefully some of us New Zealanders (and maybe this thread) can score an award or two!

I haven't yet but I will later.
BTW, this post comes courtesy of my Vaio notebook running Windows 7 RTM Professional.

Well, I would use RTM but...
... You can't upgrade from windows 7 (RC) to windows 7 (RTM), so I would have to do a complete reinstall. Ill do it when RC stops working

I have voted.
Windows 7 is beginning to grow on me. At first I didn't see much difference but not I'm finding everything has been simplified and using my Vodem is a whole lot easier.
iTunes 9 is a pain in the butt. Over the weekend I had to download 90MB of iTunes, another 240MB of firmware 3.1 for the iPhone, then I had to save all my music into iTunes again because iTunes 8.2 (I just couldn't bring myself to download 8.3 ) kept forgetting all my music and would start up empty every time, then I had to sync the iPhone which worked on the 5th attempt and then iTunes proudly announced that my computer is not authorised to access some of my iPhone Apps and they have been omitted from my iPhone.
An to add insult to injury, the Voice recorder bug that is preventing me from accessing a VERY IMPORTANT INTERVIEW I conducted for an assignment which is coming due soon, has not been fixed.
Unfortunately the G705 can't double as a smartphone as far as quickly managing multiple email accounts, providing GPS functions on my cycling trips or even being readable in bright sunlight so it looks like I shall have to persevere with the iPhone at least until a decent Android competitor hits NZ.

Well I have sort of been thinking about an iPhone as my next phone. As long as I get a 3GS, I am not missing out on anything really... The phone is finally up to speed. I am completely undecided on whether I'll drop SE for Apple or wait for Aino or see what comes out at MWC, but the iPhone is finally tempting me. So long as I pick it up cheaper from somewhere.

The iPhone is a great phone for Uni students actually.
Manage multiple email accounts with ease, read documents, useful apps for alarms/notetaking/calenders, really good browsing via University wifi... aGPS so you don't get lost in the big smoke...
If you can afford $52 per month (iPhone 40 plan with 2 Bestmates) or $60 for an iPhone 40 + Vodafone Family, you'd be away laughing with a 16GB handset from $499/$699. Even better, if they decide to keep the 3GB extra data, you'll have tethering for your Mac or Netbook.

See that's just it. I can easily afford an even more expensive plan right now, but next year as a student I doubt I will be able to afford even a $30/month one, even with a part time job assuming I can find one. So a plan is sort of out of the question. Do you know anywhere that sells maybe an import 3GS for cheaper?

Oh man.... iPhone is tempting me aswell. Or maybe satio.... hmm.....
I need a decent prepay data plan first. 1GB for $20 sounds reasonable enough compared to what we have now.

Wow there's a NZ forum? I've been focused on the general SE forum and completely missed this!
Just ordered a SE C901, can't wait for it to arrive! |

@csew005
Welcome, where are you from?
@M-O
You could put some money aside now to help cover 24 x $40 payments ($960) or 24 x $60 ($1440) + the cost of the iPhone. Prepay really misses the point of the iPhone TBH because without a decent chunk of 3G data, you're better off with an iPod Touch.
