Why would you not want to open it?
I just checked my DHL tracking for my second phone from Clove, seems to be delayed as well.

Crap I just turned my phone on for 30 seconds and then realized it said to charge for at least 30 minutes prior to first use. Then the British only charge came loose upon charging with my adaptor. Will this affect my battery life if the charging was interrupted and turned it on prior to charging? |

Hi,
I'm seriously looking at buying the Xperia Z1 or Iphone 5S next week. I am getting really worried about the reviews I've been reading. Some people say the Z1 is really good while other say its crap and returned it.
I want a good point to shoot camera and not really into changing all the setting to get a good photo. Im coming from a Lumia 920.
So is it worth buying the Xperia Z1 or are there just to many issues with it
Cheers |

^ I have been an iphone user since the first iphone and loved it, I love ios7 but made the jump to the Z1, and I think since the very first iphone it finally feels like a new iphone.
I say go for the Z1 its not a decision for life, change is good and exciting
I mean in the end you can call and text on either phone, do apps and mails. everything else is a toy, and the z1 is a really fun one !, hope this helps.

@nzrocketman - sounds like camera is important to you. on paper the Z1 easily has the superior camera. but admittedly, it is not at it's full potential at the moment.
if you are willing to trust that Sony will update the firmware and make the Z1's camera truly shine, then I say go for the Z1. It is a beast in every way (power, screen, and materials). Android is a great experience, but you also have to consider how invested you are with the apple eco-system.
Iphone 5s has a pretty good camera right out of the box from what i've seen.. though nothing spectacular. it's good, but only a slight improvement over the 5 and with no real potential to be incredible.
So, there you have it. if camera is what you are considering most, then it's a matter of:
z1: good camera with potential to be incredible with updates
iphone 5s: good camera.. and a shiny new fingerprint reader..

I'm only invested in Windows Phone. I haven't owned an Apple product yet. It was just another option that im looking at. WP isn't really a big deal in New Zealand so there isn't really national apps available. So I want to make the change to ios or android |

well then i recommend just going to the store and trying both out. see which one feels good to you in your hand. which one is more interesting to you and which one just makes you think "damn i want this"
then your decision is made. i mean, really.. they're both good, quality phones. it's just a matter of how you use your phone the most..
if your choice weighs heavily on the camera, then i already told ya what to think about. what's next is to try the cameras out yourself and look at as many samples as you can and decide which you like better.

Did anyone know Xperia Z1 really with BIONZ chip? it just a hardware or software feature? Curious.... Look like just a SONY marketing tricks to mark down it got a BIONZ chip.... *Sorry for my Bad English* |

it is very likely that BIONZ for mobile is software based and not a dedicated processing chip, as with their standalone cameras. mostly to save space, i would think. considering there was no "chip" identified in the teardown that could be a BIONZ chip (NOTE: I don't even know if it is a chip that can be identified in a teardown), it's probably software based.
That being said, that doesn't mean it's a slouch either. I don't think Sony has fully utilized the BIONZ processing yet.. hopefully, we will find out in a month or two with updates.

The problem here is not that the z takes bad photos, its the ignorant expectations people have when it comes to imaging. Can't really blame them.. it has been years and years of relentless marketing telling you that more mpix = better image quality, which is true to a certain extend, but overall.. no even close.
All you have to do is look at the size of the sensor area and you will get a pretty good idea of what's going on. Its probably the one aspect of imaging that makes the most difference when it comes to IQ.
The bigger the sensor, the better the image, all else being equal.
The same exact thing happened with the 920.. everyone was drooling how amazing its going to be despite the fact that Nokia told us that its a tiny sensor.
With the current technology they are applying to image sensors, this is it.. you need a big sensor if you want quality, there is no other way around it.
Just to prove a point..
The 1020 has a 1/1.5'' sensor divided into 41Mpix which makes each of those pixels 1.1 microns
The Nikon D800 has a 36x24mm sensor divided into 36Mpix and each of those pixels is 4.9 microns
Despite the fact that they are similar in resolution, the D800 will produce a FAR better image than the 1020.. its not even close.
The Z has a 1/2.3'' .. look at where that stacks up:
If you ask me.. someone should put a 1" sensor into a smartphone, I don't care how big the hump is.. IQ would be phenomenal.

@moogoo
Stores here do not show other pcs unless they are purchased. And Z1 is not available for normal display in stores yet so that I could compare it with some other unit.
No diff in screen after update...
Also compared my Z1 with an S4... Took pictures from both in low light with flash on and overall the image from my Z1 was much better and brighter. Didn't checked at 100% zoom though... Z1's flash is quite weaker than S4 but still it took better pic...
Performance wise S4 was lagy in comparison...

I like your positive outlook, but I hate to tell you that its not a realistic one.. the Z is limited by a small sensor and there is only that much you can do with that.

Relative to the majority of smartphones the Z1s sensor is a monster. I don't see moogoo comparing the Z1 to SLR sized sensors, we're all just comparing the Z1 to equivelant devices. We'll see how the Z1 compares to the 1020 once its proper firmware is released, but compared to other smartphones it's quite nice so far. Still room for improvement of course, and some issues like the odd blurring some have reported. |
