face it - sofia will be shown at cebit, and then probably released mid-end 2007 ... history is repeating it self ... sony ericsson is using this strategy ever since

A guy i know from SE here in Portugal also said k850 will be shown next week
k810 is like w810 was to the w800, no truly the successor

But you could say the same about the K550i and K810i announcements. Why would anyone go for a W610 when then w880i has just been announced.
I think it is to do with pricing.  Obviously thought the W880i was a bit special as it had its very own flash site etc. But that didn't stop the W610i from being announced and you could argue that it is just a repackaged W850i or W810i.
But lets wait and see anyway.

thanks for the info, i hope sofia picks up the aesthetic of the white one, and i hope they dont try and make it like last year with the PS'd handsets of the supposed w that never materialized ... could the black one be a mock up of the k81

Heres my problem with todays announcements.
K810i- I can see myself buying this, If, it gains 850 US 3G and Edge. It is just what i wanted, a K790a, in a slimmer more attractive package.
K550i- Also beautiful, but its the same thing as my w810i, but slimmer, and not walkman branded.
W610i- definately the same thing as my w810i but slimmer.
W880i- Slim w810i without auto focus.
It seems like they took the same phones, give or take a few features and shoved them in small metal packages......

I think the bigger question we should consider is how we can all go get jobs as phone designers. Seriously, how much effort did it take to basically release the same phones in slightly(arguably) better packaging? I want that job. I am mostly dissappointed because there wasn't anything really new in these phones just a slightly different button layout which not everyone is a fan of. |

w800 - shutter switch = w810
w810 - autofocus = w850
w850 - (FM + LED) = w880
I'd say taking away features and putting in slimmer metal casing. |
