Z5 compact is a good option for MWC along with mid rangers since it doesnt have fierce rivals. |

1. I disagree, it is not likely to be another weakness, the cpu should be improved, and anyway, it is not going to make or break the device.
It's killing the M9 already. |

the reason why sony isn't going for sd820 in z5 is because of their 6 month release cycle?! looks like z5 will get new design, 4gb ram and Qhd display. And to justify the z6 at ces/mwc they will upgrade the z5 with sd820 and maybe also with a new sensor. so z6 would be the device to wait for, updated design and hardware + new cpu. |

^With this mindset, I don't think you will be able to buy any Sony phones soon.
I had enough of this 6 months cycle to the point that I don't really care about spec anymore.
With the Z5 having a new design, I will be happy to buy it.
They should abandon the idea of launching 3 flagship at the same time. It's not helping at all, It would be better for them to release "Z5" at IFA (together with the best specs), then "Z5 Phablet" around CES or MWC etc.
This will prevent them from cannibalizing each other

I really hope the rumors about them not using 820 is wrong. Who will buy a phone with 810 in q4? |

Considering that in q4 we should see devices running huawei's Kirin 940 and 950 (4xA72 + 4xA53) and more Samsung devices using current octa-core chips, it would be just sad for Sony to release new high-end device with noncompetitive SoC.
Qualcomm has to release s820 to secure some high volume orders like note5 for example to minimize their losses.
So I think that s820 will appear in q4 and improved version will be later used in devices appearing during CES/MWC 2016. The one that's going to be used this year will probably have slightly lower clocks due to 'young age' and the later one will be revised version with higher clocks - just like it was with s800 and s801 and earlier with s4 pro and s600. |

No, not really. the last worthy htc device is htc one but really? not even it, because it also had low-mid camera quality and unfavorable front top and bottom bezel for only 5" display even if you consider the stereo speakers. even if m9 had s6 cpu people would still favor s6 and g4 overall. z3 and z3 compact are likable and competitive from launch day with their "inferior" s801. g4 with its inferior s808 is surely going to sell good. its s6 that is actually not selling well in samsung standards with its amazing cpu. |

The problem here, is with us... Sony's fans... we're waiting since Z2 for the best one... and every time Sony will make some fundamental compromises and launch a less than best flagship...
and for me, the wait was from Z duo to delays of regional launch not matching with my carrier plan so I was like forced to have another new flagship or go for a 4+ months old phone... last Sony phone I had was Xperia S, I planned for Z, Z1, Z2 but no.. and because we thought of Z3 as the ultimate device but it wasn't specially with news about a much better successor, which we didn't have with Z3+.. and now we're not anticipating Z5.. but Z6 instead !! holy moly !!

@Xajel
A solution for you is:
1. Do not wait. buy what is available right now because there will always be a better device around the corner. problem solved.

^^ I know this is the only solution, but currently I'm not forced to by any phone as I'm not in a contract.. so I can wait as long as my crap S4 can hold ( or my patience withstand )

For me the main issue is the camera, it needs to be a great camera, full manual control and much better algorithm. Apart from that I can compromise on the rest, 1080p and SD810. A fingerprint sensor would be ideal and type C usb, but not deal breakers. |

Well I really do not care about SoC if it does not get extremely hot in my hand. I would love a Z Ultra successor with better speakers, camera and 6 inch screen with a metal chassis. That's all I want from Sony. A premium phablet. By the way if you release a phablet after IFA it is DOA. Note 5 and iphone plus phablets will kick your a**. If your product is good IFA is the best choice for a phablet, if it is not that great before IFA is your best option like in July-August. Vizileaks tweets that we'll see 3 flagships at IFA and May-November info from mail hacks kind of confirms it. If the throttling is solved I don't care if it is SD820 or SD810. I am not going to model anything on CATIA or Cadkey. |

It doesn't look like Sony will be using the Snapdragon 820 this year. No Type-C on Z5 either.
Z5 delayed to 2016? I don't think they can compete with SD810 anymore (there were rumors that "project zero" is going to stay on the market for a year).

Sampling does not mean it will be available for full scale production. The 810 also started sampling in the 2nd half of 2014 with more concrete info coming in December of 2014 and the first products came in January of this year and then february and so on. If 820 follows this pattern, CES is the earliest for the new chip and then more models at MWC.
Can only guess that the Z5 will come with 810, hopefully an updated version or at least Sony working with Qualcomm in order to tame the beast.
1. Xiaomi plans to release their new flagship with 820 this year in November so it may not be delayed like 810.
2. There will be no updated 810. 620 maybe?
Xiaomi, has a history of announcing products but not shipping them for some time. They announced the Mi Note Pro with SD810 in December 2014 but didn't start shipping it until a couple of weeks ago. So just because they plan to announce a phone with SD820 in November does not mean it will ship in November. |
