Those pics were stolen from Phonearena where you can also see them in full size:

I did a quick analysis of these photos in this thread when the article came out and yes there is too much noise, which is a shame. In addition the shutter speed in some photos is too short when compared to the S6 and G4. Seems the sony software prefers to up the ISO and not the shutter speed in order to get more light in. The others are helped by their OIS and can increase the amount of light by making the shutter speed longer and using a lower ISO as well to reduce noise.
Still it is not an entire loss for sony, in the photo where ISO and shutter speed were very close to identical, the Z5 can hold it's own against the rest.
But the noise, this is still a major issue sony needs to solve. |

OIS has nothing to do with anyting, only reduce shaking the handset, Sony allready mention it and that's why sony has their own software based.
You OIS freaks need to relax instead trolling here how bad the cam is. |

Of course you are 100% right, OIS has nothing to do with anything, thank you for the clarification.

from the chinese interview, it looks like Z5 line up is the first collaboration with the alpha camera team. I think they mean hardware + software. And they also mentioned not all the features from the Camera division will be included because phone and camera users ask for different features. |

Yes, OIS reduces the shakiness therefore it allows to set longer exposure times and lower ISO. It means better pictures. Digital stabilization doesn't work while taking full res pictures. |

Oh really? Then why is Sony putting OIS in its all digital cameras? Are they stupid? |

They're not putting OIS in all their cameras
Firstly, Sony doesn't use Optical Image Stabilization in their camera (OIS is nothing more than a controlled decentering of optical element), they use sensor shift stabilization which moves the whole sensor.
Secondly, their high-end full-frame RX1 didn't include any kind of stabilization for pictures and yet it was capable of producing outstanding shots.
Thirdly, benefits of stabilization are best when used with tele lenses or in low-light. In daylight when paired with fast lens you won't see much difference.
In case of mobile cameras, OIS can help with lowlight shots - with shaky hands, noisy pictures but nothing more really. So I agree that Sony should work on engineering either OIS in their next lens or shrink their sensor shift mechanism, the latter would be better for marketing |
