GSMArena Note 4 review .

Brilliant review of Note 4 the only negative that stands out for me is the gap in the design - everything else is top class

I am surprised more persons aren't disappointed by the rear placement of the speaker.

that really looks impressive!
despite the bigger display, higher resolution, and faster processor
wait what 17+ hours of video playback?

hmmm

does it have anything to do with the pentile pixels and s805?

It's because OLED technology used in Note 4.
OLED display can turn off/reduce the brightness of each pixel when displaying an image that is primarily black, for the majority of images it will consume 60–80% of the power of an LCD.
The Note 4 average display power at 50% brightness for
a wide range of image content is about 0.85 watts.
1.80 watts with maximum brightnees and full white screen.
So that's why Note 4 can last for 17+ hours in GSMarena video playback, since GSMarena set the brightness at 50% in their video playback test.

On the other hand LCDs use color filters to filter the light emitted from a backlight.
For example iPhone 6+ consume 1.52 watts no matter if the brightness level is only 50% or maximum, white full screen or not.

Although Samsung phones have always had excellent battery results especially with video playback time it is impressive that despite the increased screen resolution the video playback time has increased . IMO it must be a combination of better screen technology and newer cpu ( either way it is impressive ). Well done to Samsung !

Outstanding! The Amoleds are getting markedly better and better each year with each iteration. Just a couple months a go I looked at a Galaxy S2 screen and was shocked at how dark it appeared to be in comparison to my Note 3. When I had a Galaxy S2 back then I was so delighted over the beauty of the screen.

The screen resolution race will slow down a good bit now. Many will stop at 2,560 X 1,440 so the Note 5 with that resolution should have an even more remarkable power management ability.

Good job Samsung

I really hope the screen resolution race will end here but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't . I think that for screen of this size it would be useless to have higher resolution. Anyway for now things should only get better as more apps are optimised for this resolution and more 4k video becomes available. Either way the jump from 1080p to qhd resolution is not as massive in my opinion compared to the one from 720p to 1080p. It is crazy that my TV's have lower resolution than the phones! good to see Samsung optimising the battery life though

@miromiromi pentile on a QHD screen does it really matter?? No. There's such a high resolution no human eye can see it so your point in invalid

The next big revolution for Android is 64 bit. I really thought the Note 4 would have been so from the start. Nonetheless from the looks and reviews its another great phone from Samsung. The battery performance tests alone are great

@Bonovox
could you at least try to carefully read what i've written whenever you address me? please please please only post replies to my comments when you make sense. i already ignored you when you came back to the sony forums despite your childish rants. could you just leave me alone?

my point is that because it's pentile, there aren't really as many sub-pixels as there are in an IPS display.
FYI: wikipedia:
The layout uses one third fewer subpixels for the same resolution as the RGB

amoled already has the advantage of not lighting up certain pixels when they're supposed to represent blacks. add to that the fewer sub-pixels in pentile and i reckon you get a battery efficiency that is better than what you can find in LG G3's IPS.

did i even argue about sharpness? i was just wondering what kind of 'wizardry' samsung was doing because it certainly is impressive.

But on the same note smiled has a disadvantage at web browsing because it is uses more power for white backgrounds and Note still managed an impressive score . I think this can't be compared to LG G3 directly as it uses a better CPU and GPU
