Indeed its a damn fine phone Plankt. I totally agree this has the potential to be a best seller (but THE best seller, not so sure because the W890 & W910 have had a few mths head start). But if the screen is quality in summer sunlight, then this'll ROCK. I'm getting a new mountain bike this summer and want to see my time trials around the city then north where its more rural (about 40-50km out).
Yes I'm upgrading because I want to use Tracker & AGPS; until they include AGPS in all their mid/high end phones with AF camera & Triband HSDPA

You're forgetting its subsidy pricing; initially more expensive for the 1st quarter of life but it offers so much more than the W910.

The ONLY thing the W910 will have over this W760 is 3 things:
* Screensize.
* Walkman LOCK switch - screensaver does the same thing so negligable.
* Slightly slimmer - not too many ppl will care considering what they'll gain.

It is really pretty useless to have a GPS on a 2.2" screen. You would usually be using it while driving, and seeing some of the drivers that I have come across, I hope to hell they do not get this phone and try the GPS. I like how the camera on the W910i can be orientated like an actual camera (Like how LG Shine CU720 is on the outside as well) while being a slider phone, giving the W910i much more points on looks than all the K-series candy bar phones in my opinion. Also, games for the W910i is not a problem at all. You can find many different types of free games all over the internet. Another great thing about the W910 is that it is stunningly thin! I really dislike how phones bulge in your pockets. Only gripe I have is the camera's 2.0MP and no Auto Focus or Flash. If W910i were part of the K series (making it the first slider K if I'm not mistaken =]) Then all those problems would be solved! |

I've found Wayfinder Active aplication for example, which will be perfect for this kind of phone..not everyone lives in big cities but also goes to see some nature and many times I was in the situation where I needed to know my exact location...there are many possibilities how to use a GPS on a 2,2" screen

@borizz: Small cities with very few cars - Don't really need a GPS if you're in a small city, should know where everything is if it's somewhere you can get by bike. As for nature areas, do GPS map those areas? And if they do, is there reception to get GPS signal? If yes to both those questions then... Fair enough. |

w760 have probably the same awesome screen-type as K850.
and K850 screen rocks !! !! (only negative with this new type of TFT screen is that it cant show example "stand by clock" who example k810 can, but hey, who cares about that when you get a screen like this.
why it cant show the stand by clock, is because the screen is totally black in the "bottom", BUT also behaves in a very nice way when exposed to the direct sunlight thanks to its mirror backing - the screen information remains perfectly legible). The viewing angles are also excellent.

If you live in a BIG city - a metropolis - you should have a public transportation system. That said, I come from an upbringing ideal that when you first move to ANY city (small or large) you should look at maps to know where large monuments or locations are. Then take a Bicycle and ride around to get familiar with city Streets, Crescents, and Avenues in and around your immediate abode. Then ride further out (say 10km) to get an idea of the hood you live it, grocery stores, library, police station, firestation, hospitals (find at least 2), schools, etc. I did this with my father on our second move in the city of Toronto when I was 6. It was great exercise, and it helped me find my way home when I was lost (I could always ask a store clerk where a major intersection or what the nearest intersection was). Furthermore I always know where North is. Just an ingrained habit my father instilled upon me when I was VERY young.
My purpose for using GPS on a phone with a 2.2" screen? I know MANY bike routes Street/Trail that I'd like to enjoy this summer that I haven't in over 10yrs in this city! I'd like to know how out of shape I am so SE Tracker will time me and show my route.
Just 2wks ago I wen to pickup a very sturdy Computer desk. However, the intersection where the seller was located was not familiar to me; I didn't even know the two streets intersected. I thought it would be easy for me to find because 1 of the major streets I'm VERY familiar with and lived on when I was 5 in the North end of the city. Yet downtown, its NOT relatively in the same location relative to two other major streets that should be parallel to it. I actually HAD to use GoogleMaps to find my way because I've never walked, bused, got a drive, nor biked in that area before (and also needed to know how far from my place the seller was as I was going to take a Van-cab to bring it home. GoogleMaps (data only) on my K850i helped a lot, but took over 20mins to "Find My Location" which made it hard to know where I was going (besides south/west).
SO there are MANY uses and situations for GPS/A-GPS, and regardless of screensize ppl ALWAYS ZOOM in a map as looking at a dot to represent a city doesn't help NOBODY as they ALREADY know where they are in a state/province/country. This doesn't mater as its the SAME on ANY phone:
Blackberry (BBMaps, GoogleMaps, TeleNav)
WM Pro (GoogleMaps, TeleNav, WayFinder, etc)
UIQ phones same as above)
ALL map apps start off in a overview zoomed-OUT view of the city! Now when using driving directions like in your example; you shouldn't be staring at the phone/PDA's display you should be "listening" to your driving directions for Turn-by-Turn. If you keep staring or look too frequently at the screen you may just hit a cyclist making a right hand turn (Left-hand in British colony country's) as you would see him/her until the last second.
IF there is a dash mount for this W760i then Tracker would be PERFECT for cyclists willing to time themselves, or Wayfinders to get to a location - BUT for Mapping apps to be fully used in such a situation the USER MUST be able to set the "timeout display" function to zero. I do hope SE realizes this!
Thanks for opening your mind to consider another possibility of using a feature/application.

Yep, in natural areas satellite based GPS receiver should be able to pick up signal better than in the big city. This is because of sometimes better sky visibility and much less reflections by buildings, etc. And yes, there are maps for such areas, and there are certain situations that you don't actually need a map for. What's more free, easy to use software for creating/editing maps and data transfer from/to a GPS receiver exist. Imagine you want to go to a vacation and there is no GPS map covering the place you are going to. Just in a few minutes you can create a basic map for yourself (only coordinates of places to visit or roads/paths, etc.) If you don't know the coordinates, you can use Google Earth or search the internet
Don't know if these things are possible for a phone though
