I would've preferred the Nokia N73 to be honest, but since Rogers picked up the K790a, it's WAY cheaper than buying an unlocked N73. That was the final deal breaker on the N73 for me. I go agree it's more powerful overall than the K790/800 series, but the K790/800 is still a great phone if the price is right. |

@DragonEye He won't be able to because the country he resides in (South Africa) is a bit 'late' when it comes to the 'latest'. V3.06 isn't that big of a 'upgrade' anyway. Stability is already good 'as is', althou certain 'things' are even faster on the new version. On the other hand KBR786 won't be able to give us a impartial/unbiased opinion - he is a self-declared SE fan(boy).

Plain and simple there. I didnt expect it to be ahead that much of the n73.
You all havent mentioned the k800s superior ability to play encoded video clips.
K800 can play really high quality mp4 converted clips of up to 335kbs where as these same clips would only play sound on the n73.
One of the main reasons i picked the k800 over the n73 was despite the quicker ability to take pictures it also plays a bigger range of videos.
These mp4 clips can often surpass any smartmovie format the n73 can take.
And I do like watching an episode of smallville ect...on the way to work. LOL

Not quite true....ive had the k800i, and converted quite a few movies for it, and now, own the n73..
and it will play movies that i converted for the k800i (m3) on the handset..so really, you ain't got much of a point...the fact that the screen is bigger on the n73 help's viewing become alot easier..plus you can trim and edit the video on the handset itself...the detail is excellent, on such a large screen. |

And also is pretty futile to say the N73 won't play this or that format ! Remember is a 'computer' too which means that most video codecs can be downloaded from the net. After all my windows XP laptop could only play a few formats while just bought. There are codecs for DIVX (special movie format), Xvid and shortly the whole Matroska container format will be supported. (atm symbian only supports the old avi container apart of the mp4 off course) To say that any non smart phone/device can play more video formats is utter rubbish. What I would like to see is a N-series cellphone made by some other company. Nokia are getting to damn strong what S60 is concerned. No competition is no good. @KBR , budd where from you get your N73 ? Which South African network has it ? My queries end empty handed. No one knows what's going on. Mtn should have offer it by now but . . .

mario2004, you might also have to remember that you have to "waste" your time to search for the damm good software as well.. or search for recommendation for friends, since i hardly know any good codec player for symbian out on the net.. (well.. maybe because i didn't search hard enough). Or you even have to take out some cash out from your pocket just to get the software. After all you still be facing with the quality of the software itself.. not every software is good. There are always better software. Some ppl might have prefer to go for something that is already preset on the phone, so they do not have to do this kind of thing. |

im pretty sure carl zeiss optics won't make a difference. The lens are way too small to be called quality lens - take a look at the eos and the nikon d series - those are quality lenses

For a start you should have a look a 'Smart Movie'. Is not the best I know, but is absolutely free. It supports DIVX and Xvid. On the other hand, you are right. One has to pay for a decent (more codecs, better quality) player. Fortunately the N-series has enough 'horse power' to get a acceptable picture even with a less optimised program/codec. I use on my N70, wma - it saves me the conversion because most of my stuff on the laptop is in wma. I personaly think the N73 should be compared to the P990 from SE and not K800i. Ok picture wise a comparision makes sens, but what the rest is concerned, there isn't much to compare. I don't shoot the K800i down at all, actually I think is a nice device indeed, is just not meaningfull to compare it to the N73. Is like comparing a submarine with a space ship - yes both do transport people but come on . . .

I'm a current owner of a K790i, but I am going to sell my phone and try the Nokia N73 out. SE would have made this phone perfect, but the freakin bugs that it comes with are so irritating, that I just couldn't stand it anymore.
For current N73 users, could any of you shed some light and convince me to move to the N73? I've heard great things about the phone, but I just need some assurance.
Thanks. |
