P990 vs HTC TyTn |

I was using WM2003SE before (XDA Mini), and not really happy with 2 things: photo quality, and phone quality.
On photo quality, seems like it is still not improved in TyTn and we all can see from the sample picture..
On phone quality, I don't know if anyone this experience this... Sometimes (quite often actually), the phone function is hang, and I'm not able to receive or make call, receive or send SMS, and worst, there is no notification on this until I try to send SMS or make phone call, and couldn't do it.
This problem mostly happened after I travelled in underground train, or inside the lift where I could not get a signal. After I got my signal back on my phone, I still could not receive a call... or, sometime, I could not even get the signal back (and drain my battery pretty fast because of this). All I could do is to give it a good restart
Now using a nokia device with the same SIM card, the problem is not happening at all. So, I can be sure that it is not my SIM card problem.
Few other PPC owner also reporting the same problem, even with WM5 (XDA Atom users).
So, to me, back to WM device is not really an option, as I have bad experience there... but again, PIM Function is excellent on WM, especially when we are so used to Outlook...
One more thing, I'm not sure about new WM device nowadays... But on my XDA Mini, there is NO Key Lock function (except with third party software).
So, when a message came in and I did not notice, it is possible that I accidentally activate some other function in my device or even tick 'done' to some of my task since I'm using Pocket Informant as one of my today plug ins. I hate this sooo much since I will assume that I've done that task, and forget about it...

Had a nasty experience with the P990 today. First application in a business situation and it failed; I received a call from a key client and the phone decided to reboot. If you are looking for a device that works out off the box then I suggest at this point you look at the TyTN or the M600i. The P990 at the moment, for me, is a 'high maintainenace' device - it will get better but will take time. But I still like the form factor and the SE design. |

One difference that will only effect the few people on Orange and that have a line 1 and line 2 is that out of the box the M3100/TyTN doesn't support it. No problem with the P990.
I tried my sim in one and while out going calls can only be made from Line2, you can only receive calls on the Line1 number.
I heard that Orange are attempting to fix this but we will see. |

Hi,
I read on expansys.com forum that you cannot beam/send files/photos via bluetooth on the Vodafone 1605?
Also, can people please post experiences when using the TnTN and TomTom 5.21 with bluetooth?
Is this true?
Thanks

Hi...
I have the Orange version of the TyTn (the M3100) and while I cant confirm or deny any problems regarding beaming files via Bluetooth, I can confirm that Tom Tom 5.21 works fine via Bluetooth (even with the cheap unbranded GPS reciever I've got).
There is a problem at present that Tom Tom is only supplied on a SD or Mini SD card and not a Micro SD that fits the TyTn and that the auto installer has a problem with WM5. You can however copy the files across to a Micro SD and do a manual install of each CAB file to get around these issues.
Overall a nice phone, as others have said not as 'cool' in the styling department as the P990 but still a pretty impressive piece of kit and (at present) probably less buggy than the P990 (if only it had a flip! )

great site I found for wm5 freeware

great review:

Skype mobile :

flash player mobile :

I haven't gotten my hands on the device yet but from general reviews and features the only thing I don't like about it is lack of radio and micro sd (currently 2 gb max )

Having used and still using both devices I would like to give you my input on both devices :
P990 :
1. I have a very stable device. Menus and OS fast and responsive
2. Excelent messaging implemenation in both FC and FO modes.
3. Excelleny bluetooth implementation. Sound with DS970,s just fantastic.
4. The well proven SE 2MP SE camera still works very well.
5. The device grows on you by the minute. This is down to getting more into the symbian 9.1 OS. It is intuitive and fast..Perhaps needs to be a bit more stable.
6. Great screen
7. Texting with FC is a joy.
8. Requires a whole host of applications to have it to its full potential and this is going to take time.
9. Telephone applicatons and sound quality one of the best i have experienced
10. Excellent design.
If my call quality, messaging, music, and blutooth are fine then I am happy..
I am falling in love..
TyTN
1. This is a great device but i have had to take it back once as I encountered problems with screen alignement and keyboard reponsiveness.
2. The operating system is what we have come to expect from WM5 and i found no great differences between this and K jam in this respect.
3. The screen seems a tad darker and of lower quality to Kjam..Perhaps this is only my device
4. I use many applications on the device and in this respect it is unbeatable.
5. I am annoyed that the messaging application takes so long to open. One could not shut it down completely, but with spb plus one tends to do that..Messaging takes about 60-70% of the daily usage..
6. Call quality has improved but still below par compared to SE and Nokia products. Still some freezing problems with switching network bands..
7. Bluetooth implementation ok. Works well with DS 970's but never as well as the P990. You need a good thirdpary player to take full advantage
8. Design is little oudated. I feel that HTC has to do more work in this area otherwise their products will only be for the 'few'.. The upcoming HTC trinity looks interesting in that respect.
9. IE ok, but Opera is better and faster in my view..
In conclusion, in all important areas and instances where one uses his phone more (messaging, call quality, blutooth, music, camera, screen clarity) i find P990 better..In some cases much much better..
And then there is the design and desirability actor as well..If I get tired with using my phone i can still get some pleasure by looking at it..

sending files via bluetooth is fine,
Resco Explorer is needed or registry file change there is also a cab which enables this.
Tom Tom via bluetooth worked fine on my units all of them I had. |

@Avantis
In full agreement with you about the TyTN & P990. The more I use the P990 as an MP3 player with the HBH-DS970 the more I am impressed with its music reproduction.

please try pocketplayer. You could download a trial version from Handango.
This is a very good player and you can notice a difference with the stereo bluetooth headset. |

Yes, i do not want to exaggerate but the sound is just amazing. I had a couple of friends, (who call themselves music experts... ) listen to it, and they were very impressed..It so so full and deep on mega bass..
Bob Marley should sound great on that..

Shame i cant agree with you or Jah on the music player part as i find the colume much too low especially with my hbh ds970 bt headset. But im not the only one who has also noticed this, michal from my-symbian forums also said he found the volume quite low.
In fact my k800i/w810i are both quite a bit louder than the p990i...pretty disappointed with that part but im hoping SE fix it in the next update. |
