True, Smith was outstanding and pretty much a one-man show in the Protea camp.

@ gola: I've now submitted one of the night-fire pics for the monthly comp. Are you still gonna submit a pic?

So i finally got to play with my new toy, and WOW , wow wow... The OS is super fast and super uncomplicated. AND IT JUST WORKS. THe screen is brilliant, i have to say i didnt expect this much from the screen.

AND THE GPS is spot on, something i could never achieve with my 5800 gps. the 5800 usually never got closer than 1090metres, but the android pinpoints me in my bedroom (via google maps)

This phone will be put through its paces this week, so this is just a little first impression.

I can't access the APP store, so I gave the only other person I know with an android phone a call, SO I spoke to the wireless monkey and he told me to have a look at my software version, seems I still have the V1.1 software, and the newest is the V1.6...

So I went over to the HTC (leaf.co.za) website and bang, i am downloading the software update (only 66mb vs 128 on the 5800)

I have read the instructions on howw to update the software and it seems simple enough (easier than i am used to with the 5800, and the 5800 is not complicated at all.)

Another 30 odd minutes should see the download complete and then i can upgrade.

I DO HOPE THE FW UPDATE FIXES THE CAMERA ISSUES THAT I HAVE, the camera is really the only slow part of the phone. It takes about 5 seconds to take a picture after you pressed the camera button to take the pic.

Other than that... i am still playing and putting it through its paces.

Oh and i used the internet browser over wifi for just about an hour and it drained 20% of the battery...

Dang, not the best batt life, but then again thats not bad considering it has an 1150mAh batt vs. large screen with high res,528mhz CPU, and early software, maybe the newer software will improve it. Have you installed any apps? Hows the web browser eg. can it handle full YouTube? Hows the RAM and RAM management?

The browser is very good, and handles every website i threw at it with relative ease. It is however a little hungry and i burnt through 25 MB of data last night in about 15 minutes without downloading.

I have no task manager installed YET, so i don't have much specifics about ram management as yet, what is interesting is that you do not have the option to close programs on the phone, the phone only minimize the apps and when it needs more ram it closes the apps in closing the one that has not been used for the longest time first.

I have opened a lot of apps today (downloaded a few from android market, which has a load of free apps) and i can honestly say that i have not noticed any lag on the phone.

The phone did reboot on me once today, but i believe that it was entirely my fault.

Apps are easy to install and uninstall, but i have not had time yet to browse the whole store, so i only got a few apps (including opera mini 4.2 and facebook for my G1)

@Rhino Sounds like the iPhone when it comes to megabytes hungry default web browser browsing. You at least have the option to download Operamini. How big are the file sizes for Android apps? Are they insanely huge like the iPhone? I love having an appstore for my phone. The ease of installing apps is awesome.Cant get into the whole OVI thing for Nokia.Just doesnt do it for me.
So far its sounding good buddy.Go ANDROID!

Ive yet to go onto OVi Store. NOKIA's web services like OVi Media, Beta Labs etc. . .are just so clunky and slow,im not even going to touch OVi store, especialy if its anything like the "Download!" app.

Exactly one month to go before the 2009 Symbian Smartphone Show. Hopefully there'll be a range of stuff for Wanqa Claus to collect yet again , and hopefully the recent recession won't mean significantly less freebies, LOL.
