however in the store i can examine the handset, but here it cost 700 euro.. while online 580..  |

i'm sure you can return the product in ~ 10 days if you're not happy with it.
ask the store..

i have just read their policy:
if i'm not happy with the device, i need to send them a mail via post, (in 10 days time).
then, after they will get the mail, they will send me another letter, with the conformation.
then i will have 10 days, to send the product to them.
so i will have to pay, the first shipment.
then i will have to pay the recommendation letter (6euro)
then the shipment to them...
they we give me the money for the product after 30 days from the recommendation letter.
that's f**ked up. |

@randomuser - nice you got your hands on a Z1.. interesting that you had such a difference in screens. WHY no pictures!? I would have loved to see a comparison.
my Z1 is still "delayed" but still scheduled for delivery by 1030am.. (though i assume that'll change).

I am from india
And today i had hands on with Xperia Z1 in Jumbo electronics,
DISPLAY
it has one of the best display on smartphone.
I compared it with HTC one, galaxy s4 .firstly i sent 1 video from z1 to htc one and gs4 and then i played that video, and z1 beats both, it has a slightly better display than z ultra(i dont know how as both have same display technology)
No washed out display this time, viewing angles were perfect
blacks were perfect and whites awesome
I dont know much about camera,but i did some macro tests, it was so fast
I did same macro shot with lumia 1020 and result z1 was better and much better at macro...
its fast
Responsive
and even better
even if it is 169 gms it feels so premium

From that video it's obvious that the z1 has better screen head-on and better in everything compared to htc one. The reviewer is kinda biased |

the bad news - my Z1 is delayed and should be delivered tomorrow due to customs
the good news - it should be taken care of, and apparently my smartwatch 2 is coming too?
Called fedex again this morning cause I wasn't going to wait on handtec to get off their lazy asses to do it in a timely manner (i mean they start work at 10am! who does that?). FEDEX says the delay is caused by the fact that the shipper failed to submit a WATCH REPAIR DECLARATION. I was surprised because i didn't expect the smartwatch to come with the Z1 (but not complaining). So, I asked them more about it and they said any watch that is imported into the US requires this form to be submitted. I explained that the "watch" wasn't a watch, but a bluetooth accessory that's worn on the wrist LIKE a watch. It can tell the time, but it is no more a watch than a cell phone is a watch. They accepted my explanation and said it should be good to go from FEDEX over to US Customs (so all this was apparently FEDEX requirements and not US Customs). It should be delivered tomorrow.
So, for anybody dealing with this problem, take care of it yourself! 
@sponse - that sounds like a hassle! no store you can simply take it to? I guess I take for granted the buy/return no questions asked culture of American consumerism. Most stores have a standard 30 day policy.. some have 90 days.. some even longer. Even if you don't get your money refunded, in most cases, you can get store credit. On the other hand, with the Z1, I am in a similar boat since I imported from the UK. It won't be easy to return it if there's an issue.

Waiting for it to get in MediaMarkt here in Belgium, at that store I can buy it with an assurance , in case it get's stolen,broken,worn-out etc  |

Seems like Clove doesn't cover the shipping for RMA's.... to ship it back to them and sending you a new one..... Sending stuff to the UK cost way too much. If the Z1 I got is seriously a hardware defect, sending it back is going to be a pain and going to cost quite a lot..... |

My Impressions -
Design.
I think not much needs to be said, it is simply the best looking Xperia ever. Z looks much less premium compared to the Z1 and I personally feel Z1 looks significantly better than the Z Ultra as well.
What I didn't appreciate on the Z was how light it felt, the Z1 is the complete opposite. It not only looks elegant and premium but also feels premium and solid in the hand. I don't think there is ANY device out there in the market currently that even comes close to the premium feel of the Z1. Even the HTC One feels quite inferior.
Screen
The screen on the Z1 ( Unless you get a unit with a poor display) is breathtakingly gorgeous. Colors are the best I've EVER seen on a smartphone display and I'd say are right up there with the best VAIO displays. Black levels are also very good along with milky whites. Text is super crisp and sharp and the screen had that "painted" look to it, I'd say even more so than on the Z Ultra. I compared it against the Z Ultra and HTC One and the Z1 is definitely superior to both.
Viewing angles were also very good, although the Z Ultra was very slightly better.
Camera
Haven't really taken any shots since it was a demo unit, but it seemed quite nice. Camera UI is a marked improvement over previous Xperias and auto focus is super quick. From what little I observed, Superior Auto is definitely not the best option to take great pictures. It has shockingly high compression compared to Manual Mode. So I believe the best thing to do is take 20 MP shots and then resize to 10 or 8 MP later to get the best results.
Final Impressions
I believe the Z1 is the best and the most premium smartphone on the market right now. Nothing even comes close.  The design and build, it almost feels like a custom made luxury product.
can you give us a picture comparison between the display of the z1 and z ultra (viewed straight and at an angle)
Different reviewers have different opinions about the screen. Some say it is very good(a big improvement than z) others are saying that it's way below the s4's screen. So is there really a screen lottery or biased towards sony.

@moogoo i was talking about buying it online from an online store...
they don't have any fiscal stores here.... and you pay just 580 euro
if i want to but it from a fiscal store here in italy, it will cost me 700 euro!! and yes we have some return polices when fiscal stores are concerned... |

@sponse - oh i see. wow.. with such a big difference in price, i would be HIGHLY skeptical of that online store. Not to mention their return policy sounds like it's designed to make it long and difficult to frustrate you into giving up. I would definitely make sure they are a legit and respectable business before buying from them.
@randomuser - can you get pics of the two Z1's you handled? Also, can you get their display panel information to see if they are the same? If they are the same, then it could just be a matter of a defective screen. Since you saw only two, it's not really accurate to say there is a screen lottery.
@mnx - it is crazy expensive to ship to the UK! USPS flat rate is the cheapest I found last I looked and it was still about $24 for 3-5 business day service. I just checked Handtec to see what their policy is and luckily they have a 30 day policy where they will pay for return shipping up to 8 bp, which is only half the cost it would take. But at least it's something. Have you gotten notice from Clove that your smartwatch has shipped? I was really shocked to know that my order included the smartwatch. Actually, I bet it simply says "WITH FREE SMARTWATCH 2" on the packing slip, so customs is assuming there is a watch in the package when there really isn't. sigh..

It's not just two units though, here a lot of people seem to have gotten Z1 with Z like screen. While others have received one with a display similar to Z Ultra. Some even report a yellow tint on the screen.
Because of all this I have decided to wait 2-3 weeks before buying the Z1. I don't want to get a first batch Z1.
