Salute Xajel, Thank you for clarify up to me
I have little bit wondering, why TSMC struggling problem with Qualcomm's order (Snapdragon S4) but they can produce GPU chipset for AMD at the same 28nm manufacturing process, could be possible at different of technology, if you can provide more insight?

There was some rumor recently about Google letting up to 5 partners make the next round of Nexus devices, which would tie-in to what you're suggesting. Do you have any insight into this? Do they all have to use the same SoC? |

TSMC is still having yielding issues with 28nm AMD GPUs, most especially in the top tier cards, also the production yields were not mature yet that they decided not to release their dual GPU card until they managed to produce chips with less leakage. Even nVidia is affected by this despite the fact that they were the top priority of TSMC. Honestly TSMC is too pressured by the huge number of orders coming these fabless chip makers. that's where GloFo could really help but they haven't even stepped into 28nm yet, and their 32nm yielding is still bad as evident with low number of AMD's APUs available today.

Different optimizations in the process it self, S4 requires ULP ( Ultra Low Power ) manufacturing which is different and harder than normal LP ( Low Power ) and Mainstream...
AMD and NVIDIA GPU's are made using HP (High Performance) or HPP (High Performance Plus) manufacturing optimization, which is another challenging method next to ULP... both AMD and NVIDIA still suffering from low yield issues as what @razec already mentioned before.
The main issue with both ULP and HPP is the required low leakage, which is unwanted as it consume power and increase the heat without any usefulness... they have to optimize the design in order to avoid leakage and also mastering the process to decrease it...

I knew about it, but I know nothing more, I'm only speculating that at the end you might not get 5 smartphones, but you might have smartphones and tablets also as we already know, ASUS is working with Google for their Nexus Tablet, but we're not sure of how many tablets and how many smartphones... rumors around said Moto might enter the nexus market along with a Chinese brand ( ZTE or Huawei ), what will be left are Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony... Some speculating Sony will not enter as they insist on having their own touch on the UI+UX while Nexus products are required to have pure Android stock UI thought I don't know why Sony wont agree on such approach as being a Nexus will push the sales to very high !! not to mention there's no reason why Sony can't later release a Xperia Xperience package that any user can install on top of it and it will give the Xperia Nexus a pure Sony Xperia experience...
Sammy on the other hand already did the last two Nexus's I think it will be bad to make the third on the row again and not giving other manufacturers the chance, unless the 5th option was Sony, but they refused, so they went back to Samsung again !!...
What I hope ?
Two tablets, one low cost 7 incher, and one high-end 10.1 incher...
3 ~ 5 smartphones, Sony + HTC + Motorolla + ZTE/Huawei + LG

I am not sure how much of a sense will 5 nexus make, Its supposed to be a flagship from google, I think one tablet and one phone would be good, or incase they do make 5 phones then maybe its a reference for each segment?
For sony to make nexus, do they now build their own phones? Because while they were one of the main reasons they didnt make nexus was because they didnt make their phones in house.
Also I think the new phone(probably tapioca) from sony should be announced anytime now..

Wow just as Rubenos said the press is on the 20th. I must say this surprise has actually made me excited . Its a nice way to build up hype. Moreover i like the competitions, even though i never ever won anything from sony :@. Looks like 4 new phones will be announced.
@Rubenos,
If you are going for the conference, and if possible, please do try to make an indepth video of the phone . Especially the walkman, album and movies application.

Silly Sony.
You're not Apple.
This thing would be at negative 100 days if it were apple, but it will just piss off the Sony fans that were anticipating this announcement more than anything. |
