@amad: so Z1 breaks the world record at Antutu and has the largest Android sensor to date and you're telling me that Z1 lacks power for 1080p@60p fps video recording?
There's a huge sf update in the works, should come in October and maybe even brings RAW along with 1080p/60 video rec...
@moogoo; delayed at 12 miles distance!? That sucks man, hope you get it soon!

Finally got my hands on with the Z1. I looked at two units, the first one had a sub par screen. Probably only slightly better than Z. Severe washout at extreme angles and the overall it just seemed highly disappointing.
Thankfully the second unit had an excellent display.
My Impressions -
Design.
I think not much needs to be said, it is simply the best looking Xperia ever. Z looks much less premium compared to the Z1 and I personally feel Z1 looks significantly better than the Z Ultra as well.
What I didn't appreciate on the Z was how light it felt, the Z1 is the complete opposite. It not only looks elegant and premium but also feels premium and solid in the hand. I don't think there is ANY device out there in the market currently that even comes close to the premium feel of the Z1. Even the HTC One feels quite inferior.
Screen
The screen on the Z1 ( Unless you get a unit with a poor display) is breathtakingly gorgeous. Colors are the best I've EVER seen on a smartphone display and I'd say are right up there with the best VAIO displays. Black levels are also very good along with milky whites. Text is super crisp and sharp and the screen had that "painted" look to it, I'd say even more so than on the Z Ultra. I compared it against the Z Ultra and HTC One and the Z1 is definitely superior to both.
Viewing angles were also very good, although the Z Ultra was very slightly better.
Camera
Haven't really taken any shots since it was a demo unit, but it seemed quite nice. Camera UI is a marked improvement over previous Xperias and auto focus is super quick. From what little I observed, Superior Auto is definitely not the best option to take great pictures. It has shockingly high compression compared to Manual Mode. So I believe the best thing to do is take 20 MP shots and then resize to 10 or 8 MP later to get the best results.
Final Impressions
I believe the Z1 is the best and the most premium smartphone on the market right now. Nothing even comes close. The design and build, it almost feels like a custom made luxury product.

Well I got the Z1 today, and well it is a beast. Currently it is downloading all my apps, so won't be playing around with it much. Thankfully there is no problem with the screen brightness and it is brighter than my S2 and the whites look white and not blue like on the S2. Viewing angles are very good, not S2 like but way ahead of the the original Z. Speed wise it's insane, the fact it downloaded and installed almost all my apps in less than 5 min is crazy.
The speaker is not that bad, again it is a cell speaker so you can't expect too much, regardless, won't be using much except when doing calls on speaker.
There is no update to the device now, except info eye and walkman it seems. I am on build 14.1.G.1.518. |

I have just had an update on my Xperia Z1 for Info-eye its version 1.1.02 and has a file size of 21.6MB. I have yet to try it to see if there is any changebut it is likely to be a perfromance update rather than adding new features.

It is no good for Sony by all means. The users who get the poor screen would make a lot of complaints and the massive public users would get confused, which will negtively impact the sales eventually.
Hope Sony could supply consistent quality product for next generation.

Sony will never be top dog in android until they stop this stupid screen lottery and until they start getting the camera right. |

is there any way to find out before or after buying if the device has the bad or the good screen? Maybe it's certain phone colors, model versions (C6903 vs. 6902) or production weeks?! |

@vivftp I saw it too but it seems like he ended up with a bad screen, cause he was saying if it had the screen of the g2 and a better camera software it would be a great phone (He said it can take amazing pictures but its a hit and miss at times due to software only he was talking about superior auto) guess the update will fix that hopefully. So lets see btw he is going to complain about the bezels sighs -_-

I work for a UK network and we have just had the Nokia rep in with the 1020 and he refused to do a camera shoot-out against my Xperia Z1 even though the 1020 was on retail software he also said that the Lumia 1020 can't do macro very well as its focal lenth is shockingly bad. I did have time to take a few photos with the lumia and to be honest I cant see what all the fuss is about my Z1 will match it performance wise and with a few software tweaks it will beat the 1020 of that i'm sure.

The bad one. The one I saw doesn't have any white washout even at extreme angles. Also blacks and contrast both are superior to the HTC One. |
