Here is my theory: when Glo is trying to 'fix' its GPRS components, they have to run off certain sections systematically. It happened just before they started billing us in November last year (or December?) after the initial 'freebie' months (September-November). Now they are going back to "freebies" again and the process is repeated. It usually starts from Lagos, then it will hit me in Abuja a few weeks later. It usually lasts for one week here. AYA down your weapons! They will come back on. It has happened before. |

Approved GSM Handsets
I remember that someone on this thread asked if we have a body that approves handsets for use in Nigeria. Well, the body is NCC as AYA told us and they even have a list of approved GSM handsets which has been copied to:

My phone is on the list. Who has a phone that is not on the list? |

@cool: Too late. The first salvos have been fired and cannot be recalled. Glo could simply have notified us of maintenance. But 4 weeks for such? Still unacceptable.
@seun: The last time I looked, my 9500 was not on NCC's list of approved phones |

AYA, Your 9500 will soon be confiscated, it's illegal property
GPRS was actually on at my end while I thought it went off, I browsed below =N=0.0 and was disconnected. I recharged then restarted my phone and it's back up..
AYA, plzzz forgive glo, give them a second chance.... |

AYA: NOOOOOOOO! We will never agree you must attack them. We will never agree.
Still watching the glodirect thing....I trust that thought the GPRS may be patchy, the voice service has been up?

Funny!!! very funnny with all the planned attacks on
"GloReliability has nothing to do with a service being available at one or a few locations. Its about it being available everywhere it should be available and at all times." - AYA
just as AYA said they ought 2 b able 2 cover everywhre simultaneously. And 2 add 2 what coolaposple said, me think it has to do with their database. It happens that when their database requirment exceeds what they had catered 4 they will just have 2 shut som ppl off...me think they need an OCM Oracle Certified Master.

Fire on AYA, I am considering storming glo office with my latest 'state of the art' offensive weapons of mass destruction: prayer warriors paratroopers capable of 144 days of dry fasting. Boy, is glo in trouble! |

@mamba: Forget that Glo side. No point flogging the issue. When GPRS is back up at my location Glo knows how to get in touch.

@mamba, What do u mean confiscate 9500's, don't 4get I also use a 9500.
@brym, Prayer warrior indeed
@Aya, pls reconsider, although it's a nobel course, but reconsider, It's better 2 dine with d devil u know, than Mtn that does nothin good/u don't know. |

@Areafada: Don't worry one bit about me. Its just a protest, though i may carry it further. I will use the MTN line till Glo sits up - and God help Glo should MTN launch GPRS (or EDGE!) before they do sit up. In which case I'll simply forget the Glo SIM where it is
Meanwhile, NCC is just living in the past with that their approved phone list. The newest phone on the list the last time I checked was the Nokia 6600. Imagine!
@coola: On closer scrutiny, that your theory won't hold water at all. How come none of the customer care (and GPRS dept) guys I have spoken with every other day for 4 weeks have been able to say "We are casrrying out maintenance"?

AYA, a theory doesn't have to be right to be accepted as a theory. You don't need the quotation marks |

Regarding the list of NCC approved phones, there was a list published in the Punch about a week ago with a list I considered rather current, The list was in at least two parts was about 150 phones long. It included the Nokia 9500 among others.
Its neither here nor there but my two kobo's worth.

Ok, I am laying off Glo's back. I sheathe my swords based on Glo assuring me that their engineers are on to my case .
I'll just endure the show a while. But when next I pick it up, I will go all the way. |
