About the issue of reliability Globacom GPRS connectivity:
"... but I have never experienced GPRS faliure in my end (V/I & Ikoyi). Its beautiful using it here because you ask for the network and it anwers you immidiately, thanks to Glo." (Mario)

A lot of people seem to be satisfied with glo GPRS all over Nigeria, though the service is OK at my end apart from one time it stopped working, which AYA is aware of.
I'm begining to think, why is it only AYA now??
Anyway sha, I'm prepared to join the battle

Reliability has nothing to do with a service being available at one or a few locations. Its about it being available everywhere it should be available and at all times.
You should take a trip through Ebute-Metta, Surulere, Ikorodu Road, areas of Ikeja, Ojodu, Magodo, to see how reliable Glo GPRS is.
I was at my parents place one weekend and it worked fine. The next weekend its not working there. Another day, it works in the afternoon. I try connecting later that night and its not working. Same location.
That is not reliability. That is hopeless unpredictability.

You are correct about a lot being satisfied. But what you are missing is the silent majority that are not.
Everyone living in the areas I have listed above are NOT satisfied. Its not just me.
The list includes: Brym, Deeone, Tilly, Akan, and others I don't care to mention here. Most have given up, so they don't even bother anymore.
I am happy for those who are enjoying good service at their locations, but Glo should stop advertising "anywhere, anytime" online access when it is clearly not true on ground.
Reliability means it should be there and functional when and wherever I need it.QED _________________ For useful info about mobile data technology & trends in Nigeria, visit http://gosmartmobile.com on your PC, smartphone, PDA or WAP2.0/XHTML phone!

Well said. The advantage of GSM/GPRS is supposed to be the mobility, but in a world where the GPRS providers are not able to provide this "everywhere connectivity" it loses it's meaning. In such a world, Fixed Wireless makes more sense.
AYA, about your problems with Multilinks, we have a similar problem with Starcomms in our house. Once you know which PTO works in your primary place of business, it will work consistently as long as you work from that one location. The technology the PTOs use is not called Fixed Wireless for nothing |

@AYA: I thought Nigerians were good at boycotts? Right now Vodacom is slashing prices on their branded phones forgetting to tell buyers that they'll be limited to using only Vodafone's live portal to download any content. Guess who won't be buying a branded handset from Vodacom?

@brix: Yes, I was at the SA thread today. Its pathetic really, that branded phone bit of business.
Unfortunately, it takes a little bit of push to get Nigerians to boycott anything. But seeing I have started this 'war', I intend to pursue it to a logical conclusion. |

I will support anything that will engender quality service.
AYA: These problems with glo's GPRS service is making me rethink my impending sign-up for "business 400". You wouldn't know anything about glo's GPRS service in Gbagada and Ikeja, would you?
When do you intend to declare ware on glo
Does anyone know why so many senior people are leaving MTN Nigeria? |

I too have also been considering switching to glodirect but for the recent incidence with AYA, I'm putting the switch on hold for sure.
I'm not about to sign a contract with glo and start bitting my fingers realizing that the service will remain down for long periods of time running into a month, no way!
This war is surely getting HOT!!
About MTN, I never liked them for anything, they are just exploiting people in Nigeria.....

@mamba: Don't see how MTN has exploited Nigerians, their only crime has been the fact that they've been profitable despite scepticism amongst the investment community in Western countries...now that they've showed that business can be conducted in Africa's most populous state other companies are jumping on the bandwagon. MTN may not be popular amongst nationalist in Nigeria but their contribution to the economy cannot be called into question.

I removed my Glo SIM this morning and replaced it with MTN. A little more expensive checking mails and browsing on the move at 18 kobo per second. But definitely better than Glo's inconsistency.
