If S9 can house a headphone jack pretty sure the new xperias can too. It's not a question of empty space but choice.
Btw I really wish they could bring back double tap to wake and turn off.

Even with LDAC, quality of wired is still superior.
The " dongle" like other phones have can be annoying for many ppl.
It may get damaged easily inside pocket.
It would be better if it was like the TV antenna of M5 ( antenna had the jack) instead of split.
Sony does not sell all accessories world wide.
Not all their BT earphones/headphones have LDAC.
BT makes the phone use more power.
I dont know if it is true, but I heard BT is forbidden on Airplanes.
Last time I was on a airplane I was young and did not have cellphone.
So I cant say about it..
It is easier and cheaper to replace jack if it gets broken compared to usb.
Since Z3, phones have support for usb audio. Since Z3+, LDAC is here. Why not kill jack before?
Many users ( those who dont read about tech) dont know what LDAC is. They may end up buying BT headphones from any brand.
This move may not help to increase sales of their headphones.
On internet many ppl say they are getting XZP or XZ1 instead of XZ2. Main reason is the jack.
I see tons of same comments about HTC.
U11 is awesome in my opinion, but the no jack kills it.

The jack going away is sad. Having a splitter is nice but it's not a clean solution. Bluetooth has improved but it's still a pretty terrible wireless technology as far as getting things connected and staying connected in comparison to others. Sometimes having a hardware solution is better and how much space does a headphone jack really take up anyway?
Agreed - I have a friend who travels across the US biking. She doesn't want a dongle. It's one more thing to break or lose. And it plugs into your charging port, so if it bends in your pocket because you sit down on it, now you can't even recharge when you come across power sources.
Having said that, it does take up some noticeable space that could be used for something else (more or larger cameras, or giving into the crying sheep about smaller bezels (just like moving the side finger print sensor): https://youtu.be/sWmrrm4E7tI?t=11m28s

It's a matter of tradeoffs. I'm an engineer (not for mobile phones), and sure, if someone else has done it, you know it's possible. But maybe the Japanese drive for quality won't allow them to use certain (smaller) components which would allow it. Or who knows what other thing they'd have to tradeoff. Sometimes it isn't obvious - but I'm sure they have a very good reason for it (I'm guessing it helps them make the top bezel smaller).
Btw I really wish they could bring back double tap to wake and turn off.
Hear! Hear!

I beg to differ on that one mate, I've got both the MDR-1A'S and the MDR-1000X and compared both with the same 24bit Hi-Res track on my XZ Premium and the MDR-1000X is superior in my opinion and that's with the MDR-1A's using the better quality audio cable too.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

Guys I have this feeling that the premium or the pro version design will be really attractive, and it seems to me that its like how apple came up with iPhone 8 followed by iPhone X (sort of like they want you people to buy their premium flagship more ) |

I dont remember if they took it away since XZP or XZ1.
Screen recorder needs to come back too.
Better having it as function than as 3rd part app.

yes double tap to wake and off would be a welcome return. not sure why they took it away? but i think probably cause too many people complained about it working inconsistently, though it worked just fine for me.
screen recorder would be awesome!
also, this is a small thing, but in the last update for my XZP, they took away the flick up to bring up the app drawer. It was introduced with Oreo but with the latest updates they took it away.. annoying that they take away features like that.

Average person won't even be able to tell the difference between LDAC, aptX HD and a wired connection. maybe 1% of actual people have such good hearing where maybe could tell the difference.
I prefer in ear headphones, my XBA-A3s sound fantastic but if Sony offered them in a wireless option with a decent battery life, say 10 hours, I would grab those immediately. the only reason why I havn't bothered to get the new WF-1000x is their poor battery life, I made considering grabbing the WI-1000x but I honestly hope Sony upgrades both models to BT 5.0 and with better smaller circuitry to maximize battery life. |

Have you guys seen the photos posted by Sony South Africa on FB.
They invite ppl to watch MWC online.
Then there is a photo of the midrange trinity from CES.
Then a photo of a device.
Loop design, I cant say if it is 18:9 or 21:9.
Cant even see where is bezel, where is screen.
Could the first photo maybe be a reference to high end trinity?
If someone can gently post here the screen shot of this Sony's post, thanks..
EDIT: using the whole brightness of my phone ( enough to make my eyes sore) I could see one speaker. Z5 style.
Nothing else. This pic looks like a 100% screen phone. I really cant see any bezel.
I know many here dont believe and mock Nodar, but since last year he says about the possibility of a phone with Acoustic surface and front cam beneath screen. Honestly, this pic looks like this.. Just my opinion, I dont have any info.

Out of major oems only samsung and lg provides headphone jacks now.
Sony said they had no plans of removing.... I think they want to make us feel disappointed again and again |

Hi... This photo here
http://www.xperiablog.net/wp-[....]eria-SA-MWC-2018_2-768x885.png
All I see here is a speaker near frame on left side, just like on Z4 and Z5.
I dont see any top/bottom bezel.
Nothing else.
It really looks just speaker and screen.
Read above the pic, post says there is a surprise.

Here you go
I don't know but I think they meant that they will showcase their new XA2 series and L2, as well as launching a surprise, which means the two XZ2 phones.
I'm confused now, because at the same time in the second post, they say there will be a surprise, showing a blacked out phone with loop surface like the one on the XA2 series (it might be the XA2/XA2 Ultra with blackened features, though).
The posts were deleted. But, as XJ said that there will be something exciting, I hope the third for is true and has those features badassmam told us yesterday.
@Moe87 I think the phone was intentionally blacked out by Sony, so we can't see its features.
