@doc chickito - my phone(t39m), w/ fw r4a008 has only 'new message' posted when a text is recieved. but i have only minor lcd problems (seldom resets) with the said fw version; my brother with his backup r520 reports that his phone is gprs stable. suggest you upgrade to the latest fw.

Doc chik, am not sure if you can choose which version would be installed. On my version, you get: new message. Kill <sender> now? Hehehe. Seriously, you get the old read now question, but when you open it up you get the name of the sender - if in your contacts

guys fm semicon,
my expat co worker bought a R520 last dec i think from semicon southmall. He had problems with listening as no sound comes out of the earpiece in the phone even using handsfree. you can hear beeps tough but not voice calls.
he gave it to semicon southmall early june for repairs and they said it needs to be replaced. up to now wala pa dahil walang replacement unit. he is now back to yet to his old nokia 3810 bougth 5 yrs ago.
Is he supposed to wait until a replacement r520 arrives. paano kung wala nang dumating na r520. he was being offered a t39 pero ayaw niya nung ganoong model dahil its too small for him. of course if he gets a t68i offer as a replacement, he will not complain.
May i know what is semicon's policy in situations like this.
TIA

@gowin it would be cool to have that feature though? "Teminate now?" hahaha
im still having second thoughts talaga... there's no guarantee kasi na if ever the flashing screws-up diba? kasi not all the same models have the same attitude towards the upgrade right? but if there's a guarantee, why not?
paging semicon.. meron bang guarantee? hehehe |

@dok chikito, if they upgrade the phone and it suddenly f*cks up. you are entitled to a replacement or repair. that's your right as a consumer, protected by law - whatever policy that semicon has, it cannot take precedence over our local laws.
of course, a new r520 is quite difficult to get your hands on - they've stopped the production of that model. i believe, they'll offer a T39 replacement instead. (so this, hopefully, answers hornet26's question too) |

@padme: o ba. i'll inform you guys pag nakatayo na yung clinic hehehe
@gowin: thanks for the info dude. somehow, things cleared up. though i'm still unsure if i'll go through with the fw upgrade. no offense, but i kinda like the r520 better than the t39m, just in case it does have to be replaced...hmmm... gotta think about the risks... hehe
@hornet: so your friend is still unsure about the replacement?
@dragon: asul na r520?

dok, as far as i know, it is still 'waiting for a replacement'. He refused the t39 replacement but is amenable nga for a t68 (ha ha who woudn't) though he paid about P15T when he bought it sa Semicon.
He really likes the R520 though because it has all the features he wants and big enough for him not to lose it. He is very patient with phones as long as it delivers what he expects from it. BTW, he still has the motorola 3watt tote phone since '94 (piltel). He keeps it because its a good backup when he is not in gsm range (which is kinda rare nowadays). |

@dragon: wow that is cool.. i did see a picture of that variation somewhere over the net.. rare piece i might say.
@hornet: yeah the r520 is feature-packed.. that's why i'm having second thoughts regarding the upgrade... |
