hi. i do'nt know if i'm the first one but i'd like everyone to know that the online update servcie for the K700i messed up my phone. pls read on for the details on what happened to my phone after i using the online update service.

i've just upgraded my phone to R2L via the online update. my K700i originally has R2A with TAIWAN language pack. everything works fine except that i can no longer receive any file (jpg, 3gp, gif, etc.) via BT or IR because the phone says "memory full" but the thing is i have 42MB free memory! also if someone sends me a message with attachments (like pics, sounds, etc.) the phone won't let me save these attachments because the memory is full even if i still have 42MB free memory. i went through the update process once more but still i can't receive any incoming file either via bluetooth or infrared. i also did a master reset of the phone after the upgrade but it's still the same. anyone else experienced this? btw i also noticed before (when my phone was still R2A) that when i did a master reset the phone automatically loads the default theme (waip). but now after i upgraded to R2L via the online update service the default theme (waip) is not loaded automatically. what i got was a "blank" theme that is colored orange.

i have also read in one post that if your phone already has R2L and you tried the online update a warning message will say something like "the software in your phone is already the latest... continue: yes or no." anyway the message goes something like that. i think masseur encountered this message because he tried the online update but his phone is already R2L. i should've gotten a similar message when i went thru the whole process again but i didn't get any. the online update just continued on with the upgrade as if my phone was still R2A.

any suggestions on what i should do to correct these problems? should i bring it to a SE service center for reflashing? pls help. thanks.

StoneRoses:

actually i just came from the service center. they tried reflashing my phone with the R2L version they have (TAIWAN language pack) but the problem is still there. they told me to come back either this afternoon or tomorrow because they will try to download a new version of the R2L (if there is one). i've read in some posts that some R2L versions are incomplete. the service center is receiving quite a number of complaints regarding the missing frames issue when they upgraded their K700i's to R2L so they will check for the complete R2L with all the frames. they say that if there is this "complete" version of the R2L then this might fix my "memory full" problem. i really hope it does or else i'll have to wait for an R3 version or something. thanks for the reply.

what could possibly be the problem, why isnt it deploying, what am I doing wrong? Any hints from anyone?

ps.I have winxp sp2 and a dss-25 properly connected too.

Hi all,

I'm sure this matter has already been raised somewhere however i'll explain my situation.

I have a Vodafone branded K700i. I used the hotswap trick where you place a SE branded K700 on the DSS-25, start the update service, then, once the service has accepted the handset, remove SE model and replace with Vodafone model.

This seems to work fine. The installation begins and progresses till about 50%... then jumps to 67% and fails on 68-69% reporting the following error.

"error in communication with the device"

I have tried this procedure on 4 machines now. With different configurations on each. I.e. SP1/SP2, diff versions of JAVA. I have even swapped sim cards from Voda to Optus & Telstra. Neither of these methods will allow me to successfully complete the update.

My guess is that the installation procedure gets to a point where it is trying to update a Voda protected file and fails.

If anybody has experienced the same problem, or has any helpfull advice. I would really appreciate it.

Cheers!!!

I can report having a similar problem, unbranded k700.
installation goes up to 60+% and then jumps to 92%...
Then "Error communicating with device", "Remove battery and restart...."
The phone seems flashed though but my languages are gone. Only "Automatic" and "English" left.

I have found some clues in the log file in the installation directory of SEUS, my path C:\Program\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\log\mySEUSlog.log

This is the part when the installation is up to 60~70% and decides to jump to 92%

to anyone who has successfully updated their K700i to R2L using the online update service, do your phones work perfectly after the upgrade? mine did not encounter any error but i'm experiencing serious problems with regards to memory issues. i can no longer save any multimedia content (pics, movies, mp3, etc) on my phone even if i still have all 42MB free! my phone doesn't accept any more files via BT or IR. also the tennis game stops at the loading screen (bouncing ball). i also made 2 video clips which i cannot delete even after i do a master reset. that online update service ruined my phone. i brought my phone to a local service center and they don't know what to do. better check your phones after the upgrade. hope this doesn't happen to anyone who used this online update service. btw anyone out there who experienced something similar i would like to know what you did to fix your K700i.

@freeloader

That confused me for a while! After installing seus_setup115.exe go back to http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/K700/frameset.htm and you should find that you can now perform a firmware upgrade.

It's just a pitty that it doesn't work on my O2 branded K700 .

mwarner, thanx for the tip,but already tried that several times it always checks the client application installation and then starts downloading the same file again,so I guess there must be some other possible cause,Im comfused and at the end after reading several posts about problems occured after that update, maybe its better to pass on this offer,if you could say that.

Yeah, just install the drivers and go to the update site. The instructions should take you from there. Taking out the SIM card is a good idea, too. If it doesn't work without it, put it back in. I think it works either way, but it's less risky with the SIM card removed.

Thanks ! But do I need to install any software that comes with K700i CD in order for my K700i to work with DSS-25??

I have 2 mp3 files that I can't delete. It says "Can't be deleted, protected file"

But can't see any other problems, yet..
