The white paper makes very interesting reading. One bit I'm interested in is the following:
My Friends (new address book) - from white paper
"The application also enables you to view the 'presence', or availability of the contacts in My friends. You can easily and quickly find out whether they are in a meeting or free to speak to you. You can then choose how you wish to contact them. "
I'm trying to imagine how this is possible - it's essentially like a "buddy list" in your fave instant messaging app (AOL IM, MSN messenger, yahoo chat, etc). No mention of an IM app is mentioned, although they do talk about "chatting" with another person, although I assumed this was just a historical SMS that showed the remarks that had gone before.
To tell whether a friend is "available" - technically that surely must be a GPRS service as it needs constant updating, and even so what mechanism would it use to determine if someone is online? a chat prog like AOL IM? detecting the profile that the friends phone is using (normal, meeting, etc)? is that even possible?
Is this part of the GPRS spec that you can tell if another address is turned on and what proflile the're using (in which case - apart from privacy issues - it would be limited to friends with GPRS services)? Is this a proprietry SE or K700 thing (further limiting which friends you could tell the status of)? SyncML?
I love the idea, and think it's killer if your phone could act in the same way as your buddy list, especially if it can show people's custom status, eg "gone to gym - back at 6" - but I'm left with loads of questions as to how this is possible.
any ideas?
I'm prepared to last out a little longer with my 68i as the K700 looks like a real leap over the t630. |

Hi,
Does anyone know when Siemens S65 is going to hit the market? Q2? Q4?
If it is Q2 then I think K700 will have a tough competitor. If it is later I think SE will sell _lots_ of units before Siemens can catch up...

I read Q3 somewhere, but I'm not sure. What I have read S65 seem to be targeting the business market and hence will not compete with K700 directly (K700 is expected to be cheaper). We will see next week when it will be released. For me, K700 looks better.

@HoofHearted
"My Friends" *is* the IM client for the phone. I would be surprised if it used anything other than GPRS too.

fantastic. I was confused though because if it was an IM client I was expecting it ti say on what network it was based (AOL/MSN/Yahoo/ICQ) - and no mention of any network was made.
Surely it wouldn't be a system that only showed other SE phones or even worse other K700s? the larger the network the more people you can show as online. |

This service is called "Wireless Village". It is an open industry standard. Sony Ericsson supports it since the T630.

I have to concure with others here saying that the 32Mb memory aint for the MP3 abilities. The K700 actually has BT and that means that SONY ERICSSON want's us to by their BT Mp3-Player. But Perhaps it is something like others said that is has Atrac3 or something. I mean SONY has one part into the phone, and they got Atrac, so why not... I might have atrac?

Aren't the panorama function cool!?Quote:
| From the whitepaper:
The camera can create panorama pictures by stiching together into one large picture. This is done with the help of a unique image processing technique. |
|
And finallly we can record our conversations again!Quote:
| From the whitepaper:
The sound recordeer can record both voice memos and call conversations. |

cmon people k700 isn't a mp3 player! it just adds another feature of mp3 ringtones but it isn't a mp3 player!!
it wasn't built for that! they have a bt mp3 player btw, and it's logical that some won't have a ms duo if they already have a mp3 player and they are going to announce a new one this year (probably september)
this mp3 storage thing is just like saying that p900 isn't a music player because it can't have a full 700mb wav cd! yeah it isn't built for that! |

I liked the K700 alot, exspacially the specs of the phone. Now i saw the S65, i like his design more. I think the back of the K700 (a camera) is a bit weird.

s65 is too big for me. 65k screen, not 256k.
"Music machine, radio freedom
Listen to news or tune in to your favorite hit station with the built-in FM radio. Combine with a Bluetooth™ Handsfree set, like the HBH-600, and keep the phone in your bag - or just listen through the internal speaker.
With K700, you don't have to leave your music at home. The K700 comes equipped with a Media Player, allowing you to play your own MP3's - and even streamed or downloaded video clips.

so it is clear that the k700 is a mp3 player as well.

I think that se have realy listened to us and have included everything that is missing in t610. Just look at this. The thing that everybody was complaining about was the lack of memory that is only 2MB so se have puted 32MB in to this baby. There was some months ago a petition about bether java suport and that people was sick about mophun's licensing so they have included midp2.0 3D and removed mophun. When nokia introdused 6230 everybody said that 6230 is much bether then t610 because it have mp3's so se have included that to. There have been alots of people complianing about that the screen and the camera on t610 is to bad so have made us a screen that have 265k colors.
I think i will end my list here because i can hold this going all night if i continue but my point is that have included or upgraded every single thing that people was complaining about in t610.
I think that since i love t610 even if it have lacks of some futures i think that i will probably have even more fun with this phone.
