Because it wasn't good enough, presumably. Count yourself lucky, they've saved you.

Why, did "Eldar" make Vodafone drop the X2?

Nobody has to save me, I'm not getting anything from any carrier, Voda is not even present in my country.
And we know that quality is rarely an issue in these decisions.

Or at least I do.
X2 will be probably normally offered by other carriers or SE store where I usually buy devices anyway.

Completely blown out of context. Yes, it may be bad for the sales of the device. But it's only one operator and stores like CPW and P4U will still offer it. So to say RIP X2 just because Vodafone drops it in one country is bullshit

Doubtful. There's no sign of it on their sites at the moment. This was to be a big Vodafone "exclusive" for release back in November - it was still on their site just yesterday as a "coming soon" for January - now it's nowhere except one independent unit-shifter (Plemix).
The UK is a big market for SE and a potentially big market for a supposedly high-end smartphone like this. Having no carrier support at the last, already belated minute is very bad news for sales, and a very bad sign for other markets too.
So to say RIP X2 just because Vodafone drops it in one country is bullshit
At best it's a slight overstatement - but only slight.

Reading the first 5 or so pages of this thread is most amusing with some usual fanboi suspects declaring that this will be their next phone and others flaming those who dared to suggest that it may turn up late and is out of date anyway using 2008 technology. As per normal when all of these doubts prove well founded they are nowhere to be seen having dropped their load of bile and drivel. Interestingly this is all being repeated agianst Sealover in the X10 thread when despite being one of the most prolific contibutors of information he dares to question the wisdom of SE's strategy in direct ccontradiction of the fanboi edict that any who dare question are traitors, fools and must be shouted down.
Apart from the usual apologists who can really assert that this is the way to launch a handset assuming you actually want to sell any units which in SE's case I'm not so sure about. However as has been pointed out the entire Xperia brand at the moment looks like a farce with a huge build up at the beginnig at MWC Feb 2008 and here we are 2 years later with in the UK one obsolete WM phone actaully available (X1, if youy can find it as now dropped by carriers) and a niche "jewel" phone (Pure) that has no smartphone features and doesn't seem to relate to the original Xperia premise at all.
In fact at the moment in the UK SE's smartphone portfolio available for purchase on the high street (ie where the public actually shops not through specialist stores) is one; the Satio which was unavailable for some of the Christmas run-up.
And still the fanbois turn up to blame Eldar, Vodafone, Boinng for being negative, Planetry miss-alignment in fact anybody other than SE.
I can't see how the WM X- range isn't dead or at least dormant now awaiting WM 7, maybe this is why SE have been so negligent of this product. Without Voda support and I can't see the other carriers picking it up having been delayed and after Satio experience and I can't see why CPW or Phones4U would bother, this phone and range is effectively dead in UK. Although UK is by no means a major market I can't see that any development of the vaunted but not very visible panel system is going to happen, in a 2010 app driven world antother nail in it's coffin. If I had to have a WM device for top dollar get HD2 or TG01 or get one of the cheap HTC's or even X1 now it's more normal price (although my bro has had a poor experience with his). So no panels no interest and no marketing buzz, call the undertakers this one's done.
Let's see what they do with WM7 |

So you think that because Vodafone dropped it major retail chains as CPW and P4U aren't going to sell it? It's not really out on the market yet, so to say they don't because it's not on their site doesn't really make sense. I don't exactly know how it is with unreleased phones to be on sites of CPW and the likes, but here in The Netherlands it's really normal they aren't till they are available. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They are mostly (though not always) listed on their "Coming Soon" sections prior to availabilityto generate marketing interest. Becasue this was a Vodafone exclusive no other channels had picked it up. After it's postponement and with the recent experience of the Satio and low level of SE credibility I don't believe that any will want an top price 2008 spec WM handset. Not with so much more imminently available. |

All I read about X2 was fairly positive including some people here who have used it.

X2 as a phone is good, its the best until the Touch Pro gets its replacement which is much later. The company has let itself down with delays and because of Satio etc. there is a lack of confidence and so on. There is no point clearing out a shop window for the 'X2 coming soon' when you could advertise and sell stuff that is there. No fault of the phone itself.
Back to the phone, there have been a few changes here and there like how Tilewave has slowly evolved to be more useful than the first sightings. Not much else to say but it should be in shops. |
