I do know many people who always open their slider phone when using it even though thry have all the keys they need on top(dpad). One reason may be that that's one of the ways to unlock the keys, another that the phone may feel better in the hand that way (probably wouldn't be so in the already hefty Aido) or they're just used to opening it when texting and such. My point is that for many people sliding down the keyboard to use the d-pad may not be as big a deal as it is for me (or some of you guys).
note: I'm not trying to butter up se- I still think full TS support AND keys would be best- I was only commenting on the question as to wether how (un)annoing using such a phone would be. |

If the phone had full touchscreen, the design wouldn't be so unusable.
What in your experience can it not do that makes the design crippled and unusable?
May be you could upload a video to Youtube and show us this difficulty you are having because, correct me if I'm wrong but none of the reviewers who have had this phone in their hands seem to have expressed this so called difficulty that renders the design unusuable.

This again? We have touch for media properties to ease it up and the buttons for the phone properties as it is easier. Both methods are seperated for both modes that are easy in one or the other. |

Ditto.
I ALWAYS open the slider before I use any options in my phone, except changing volume. The one step slide is way less inconvenient than a 2 button unlock procedure. PLus the using number key shortcuts deal I have mentioned like 20 times by now to each and every one who complains.
Makes me wonder, just how many of those who complain here actually USE a slider regularly? |

The full screen of Aino and its simple design is a great part of its appeal. Anyway, I think I'll reserve judgement till I've actually used the phone but calling it crippled!
I agree, the full screen design is what actually makes it a stunner, or it would turn out to be like just another slider with the d-pad there. It's simplicity is the core of its appeal. But I also think it would've only been a practical design if it supported full touchscreen functionality so in other words, it's impractical IMO.

My main phone is a slider. Lucky my phone has Music keys, gaming keys, dpad/touch scroll wheel, soft keys, menu key, answer/drop call keys and a media key all on the top slider so i hardly ever have to open the slider unless texting, its so convenient to just use it closed especialy when surfing the web, listening to music and when on a call. I would be so annoyed if i had to open the slider everytime i want to do something that doesnt require the numeric keypad all the time like web surfing or listening to music. The point here though is they may keep the dpad where it is its fine as long as it has a full touchscreen but this is not the case. Why do SE have to force the user to open the slider all the time? Why dont they give US THE CONSUMER the choice and convenience? Plus they could have put a Keylock switch like they had in the W900 and P990-i think ,so atleast you simply flick the switch when unlocking the TS or keyboard. Theres no excuse for what theyve done here. This phone has SOOO much potential, but its wasted due to a half done TS.

Come on! You said that. So I wrote what do we need to understant from that ( ops, sorry, you've removed that from post ). I like the design and I don't think is unusable. That was your point.
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand... Mediar's Site |

Gucci.011: Make no mistake, I'd LOVE to see full touch in the web browser on this phone. That is the only problem i have with this, but it's not a deal breaker for me. (You can play music, videos, whatever with the slider closed).
I am a future customer for this phone and I do not see the SERIOUS usability issues many doomsday pundits are talking about. Is it a perfect solution? No. But neither is a flip phone and some people like it. Same difference.
Oh, and as per GSMA, there IS an unlock button, on top of the phone.

If you're referring to the current stage of the TS then yes, it's a wasted potential. But maybe we should reserve bitterness until its final version? |

No bitterness, just absolute disappointment. About the keylock, sorry i read your most wrong synn thought you had said you need to slide the phone to unlock.

Well yeah I would be quite disappointed too if this is the final version of the touchscreen function. |

That is why it is crippled to me.
@goldenface
The jog dial would help in eliminating the need to slide open the phone to read messages amongst other tasks. The d-pad comes into play when you have to carry out more advanced operations.
This way the phone retains its A2 traits with its limited touchscreen while also keeping the d-pad where it is. Otherwise they should've made it a full touchscreen.

I'm a fan of the jog dial too, but I don't think it'll return. They've had had problems with longevity with it in the past.
Also, please refer to the above posts again. It's not as "crippled" as the post you quoted make it seem. |
