@chombos:
Proper Hardware? It's the same hardware since P1i (save for the minor camera update).
Good that you don't care for HSDPA albeit the rest of the world does. It's ridiculous to release a smartphone in 2008 and leave it out.
cheers,
hymie

WHAT is wrong with UIQ3.... maybe you think that UIQ3=P990....
that is totally wrong!
UIQ3 can be very powerful and be a perfect OS.... now it has got the proper hardware.... so let's see the power of UIQ3.
btw... i don't care about HSDPA... we don't have even GPRS in our country.
Its slow compared to S60, its laggy, its always buggy with every new phone despite being used since the P990. (Yes p990 my gosh how long ago was that?) They still use that crappy old nexperia chipset.
Whats the bet these g phones have the green tint lol.
In short all SE are doing is slwoly putting in a few new specs now and again whilst Nokia and even Samsung are miles ahead in terms of functionality.

bavlondon, get the facts straight...compare s60 v3 in a n80 with UIQ3 on a p1??? thatīs two devices with similar processors...then, tell me, is n80 faster???
so its like that, UIQ3 IS NOT slower than s60 v3, its just that top devices like n85, n82, E90 have more powerfull processors than P1 or UIQ3 and that will also make the OS faster
also...UIQ3 is not buggy on P1, W960, at least not worse than other devices of wm or s60...and even on the gseries people that messed with the devices though they were pretty stable
so, do not mix things

Uhuh. And if s60 had the same speed as UIQ on switching screens and apps since the last two firmwares.. Then it would be operating - according to the experts around here - with pauses lasting less than an "instant". Which I am sure, of course, is not beyond that incredible platform - apologies for insinuating that I am contradicting people on that one.

@ares: Excellent that you finally got the idea! Then why on earth does SE refrain to update the CPU core in its UIQ phones to be on par with Nokia and Samsung? ? ? |

maybe because they wanted to make the g series really really low price??? thatīs why
again, do you think P5, the W960 sucessor, etc, will have that hardware??? but you will have to pay more...
my point...i am happy they finnaly decided to put UIQ on smaller cheaper phones...and the phones are not bad at all it seems
i want high end stuff, but for the OS to grow in the market, things like the g series are also needed

I agree with you. Not all of us are rich to buy the high-end devices. G is a mid-end phone. The specs is quite okay for a mid-end phone and the price is reasonable. |

..Because the power- consumption and volt- levels would be completely different? You know - I really don't think it's a problem that the typical nokia- byer - "ohmygawd, it's got one more pixel and a higher version number than my previous phone!" - doesn't have all that much impact on what sort of solution SE chooses on the hardware.
But now you do get the x1, specially tailored for the american market, and the morons. And you can buy it incredibly expensive, and get a lovely photo- gallery to watch your pictures on, with animations and transition- effects - so what's the problem now?

I don't think so. The UIQ Press Conference has already ended. |

Maybe hymie and others with similar expectation will not buy g series phone but actually who cares.
IMO SE did a very good job with those new phones from the buseness point of view. Look at the official anounsment, it is a pure lesson of modern marketing strategy. They dont talk about technical specs but about feeling of simplicity.
I believe they payed some expert consulting company to help them make significant change. The outcome - to serve more people (defined market segment) with good priced, high quality phones is IMO the right business move. Now they just have to lounch those phones without bugs.
For others, they have to wait the new high-end phones.

Hey, i don't really agree with people saying the G900 is positioned as mid-range. Look at the specs vs. the P1, which is as far as i know considered high-end in the SE portfolio. Apart from screen size, keyboard layout and battery size, G900 outperforms or matches P1:
- 5MP camera (and apparently better cam interface, to be confirmed when reviews surface)
- same RAM
- same built-in memory
- same processor
- M2 mem stick compatibility
- media player same as W960 (at least, according to the G900 white paper)
- better video recording (QVGA at 30fps)
- wifi b+g (this seems to be confirmed in the WP)
It's also more pocketable. I've already kicked the W960 out of my wishlist, i'm getting the G900 when it's out. |

I have a P1 and even with the latest firmware you still have to open all apps firts time to get them "instant" the next time. Otherwise there is always a delay.
And why are you comparing N80? That came out years ago. P1 was only out last year lol. But I suppose you illustrated how behind SE is in that respect.
