the p1 keyboard looks FLAT. unlike the m600i one which looks curved a little, or how ever it is, cant describe it..... but it looks as though it would be easier to press the key you want on m600i as its not flat like p1

*warning: the above sentence may confuse some people and may not make sense either to some.. i even conufsed my self typing that its one of those things you know what you mean, but dont know how to put in words...

Apparently the P1 prototypes (aka P700's) have had a "flatter" keyboard, but SE reps say that's not the final version, and that the finished version will be more like the M600's (ie more concave).. this probably explains how the GSM Arena review came to label the P1's keyboard "tortuous", despite the M600's being quite popular.

Just to post my opinion, I prefer the P990 style keyboard over the M600 and I definitely want the flip as I often type SMSs using the T9 dictionary, it is much easier if you are in a hurry. When used as a phone, the flip has big advantages which I do not want to loose. Besides, the flip also provides a good screen protection which I really appreciate. I tried using the P990 without the flip for a couple of weeks and decided the flip works better for me.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

From the pics that I posted, I wanted to show that the 'concave' value of the keys wasn't to the extent of that on the M600i.

I've gotten used to them now - alot subtler than that of the M600i.

I'll see what the keypad on the handsets on show at the SE store look like tomorrow.

Guys, what a funny discussion o flip or no flip... Beyond any doubts - it is always better to have TWO options for controlling the phone (qwerty plus flip) than ONE.
It was always the ADVANTAGE of the Pxxx - CHOICE.
Similar to Nokia Communicator.
So if we - who prefer P990 constr. - will HAVE to will get used to P1i system, we will. But WITHOUT a choice. I'm happy to be able to write qwerty, alphanumeric or with touch screen/handwriting.
THE WEALTH OF CHOICE.

Isn't this a new feature on SE phones?

this is a good feature for the average joe, but for someone who has sensitive data on their phone which is the reason the phone's been stolen, the thief will make sure they get the data off without letting the phone connect to the network. If the phone can't connect, it's data can't be wiped remotely

Hmm, I took the flip off from my P990 a few month ago without any intention to bring it back. Now I observed P1 (P700 before) for a while and asked myself is 2.8" vs 2.6" screen a big difference and is P990 qwerty really so much better than P1 qwerty because previously I strongly rejected the idea of a smaller screen or not full qwerty. It seams that I have to admit that both answers are no, for me off course. I would say that 25% smaller size than P990 is the greatest feature of P1. Its simply fantastic to see such small yet such powerfull device (M600 was out of question without camera and wifi). With 128 RAM, better camera, VOIP, better UI (15 shortcuts etc) it looks like a real beast, fantastic.
But my P990 is fullfiling all my needs and the new fw is yet to come so I think Ill stick with it.

wow took me 2 hours to read through the posts lol....

current p910 user, former p800....haven't switched to p990, now i'm thinking p1i, but then no keypad? how does the m600 style keypad wok as i've never tried it? do you have to press twice to switch between 2 characters, or the buttons actually can be pressed left or right, or full press for a number?

anyway, p1i looks hot! but still not enough for me to throw my trusty p910 away heheheh

Yeah there like rocker keys, hit the left side for the one letter and the right for another, then you've got the shift plus left/right too I did actually like the M600 keyboard but wanted wifi and camera. Going to really love my P1i when I get it....
