Some interesting points but to be honest i like the P990, good features and overal design (not sure about the thumb pad but will wait and see) My only real concern is the fact that i have a lot of software on my P910 (worth a lot of monnies) including navicore GPS which i only brought this year but none of these would be usable. |

The software issue riles me too, I've spent over two years collecting and paying for my software collection. With the p990 I'll have to start afresh.
Still, that blue backlight . . . mmmmm, nice!

First post :)
Well, what can i say...
I'm in love :D
I only got my p910 ~1.5 months ago, because it was by far the phone closest to what I needed. All it lacked for me was wifi...
Meanwhile I found the p910 flip keyboard quite unusable while travelling (you need two hands to hold the phone...), and the lack of backlighting was a minus too. So i removed the flip, and I really enjoy using it this way.
So now they announce the p990 and it's like if the guys at SE read my mind... Every problem I ever thought of while having the p910 has been fixed.
WIFI! at last!
The keyboard has been moved to the main body of the phone... Thus making it possible to operate with one hand! And it has backligting (one cool color too)! (yeah yeah the screen got a bit smaller, but if the resolution is the same/bigger, i don't really mind)
I've just recently started wondering if i needed something to take better pictures... and there it is: 2MP camera!
Charging via usb? Now that's also something I've been craving for
Not to mention the fact that the phone pops up as a removable drive on the pc (no more fiddling around with that crappy pc suite at last!)
Ah and the keylock-slide-button is great too (I had some lockups with tracker when I set a key to be the lock key, i guess this solves that :)
I just hope they add a feature for switching the sms delivery report on by default.
I reeally don't see why everyone has to be bitching around so much.
To me this phone looks perfect and I'm replacing the p910 as soon as it's out. And it will probably stay until it gets completely trashed :)
As for the other phones: I don't really know the newer nokia models, but having a hdd in a phone sounds like trouble to me. No mechanical drives for me, please.
I do have one question: does anyone know anything exact on the cpu the p990 will use? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the press release. |

the funny thing about this though, is that when the phone is released. all you whining ladies are gonna buy one...
so stop freaking complaining, it's a fabulous phone. without sony, ericsson without be around anymore. you'd have nothing. and i believe sony has done more good than bad so far.
you don't like the buttons, go get yourself a bloody nokia. or you can wait, because in each update, they're coming out with a new model, so you can pick and choose (less buttons, more buttons, square buttons, round buttons, etc)

I just think that it's still too big... I know that it got the specs, but I hoped that new tecnology would have made SE able to make it smaller...
But all in all it looks very nice |

@ masseur or anyone who has seen the phone one question
is the flip hinge the p910i style or the p900i style i hope it is p910 and not flimsy p900
I am so glad they put the ir on top now at last I can expect a good if not wonderful universal remote app, wouldn't it just be great if sony programmed their api's into making a remote app for this phone, wow.
I also hope there is a bridge connection between this and psp, imagine connect the 2 then play onine via the phones 3g connection seems unlikely but one can hope
I love sony, love sonyericsson, just wish they'd co-operate more on product intergration, like for example controlling your aibo with p series, now that would be cool

Then the screen would have been smaller too, which many think is too small already (which it aint).

Yeah, it would be cool if Sony themselves brought out some software which would make the P990 work like the $600 RM-NX7000
Just an added luxury really not a necesity.
I do like the IR remote software now though, however it will now have to work on a portrate view because of the moved IR sensor.
Although it is better at the top, because its a bit of a pain on the P910 where it is now. |
