It had has never been an issue, at least not for me, but has anyone actually noticced that there's been a considerable drop in call quality to MTN numbers? Just yesterday, I had to call back two contacts on their Telkom lines because their MTN connections were unberarable. What I don't get is: They're a very profitable company, why haven't they improved their network quality?

I have to disagree with what a lot of people think and say about MTN. I am not pro MTN (or PRO any network for that matter) but i have been on MTN with 1 of my contracts for 4 months now, and i really cant complain. I have no problem with call quality, and MTN does offer better deals on phones than Voda in many cases. Personally, the MTN anytime contracts offer me better value than any of vodacom's packages at the moment. If voda were to offer better deals on their topup packages this may change overnight.

@Rhino

glad you could come in as an mtn subscriber. I agree with you on better deals compared to voda but there are just major issues that bug me about mtn, like, poor network signal- believe me this was the major reason I left them in 1998. My little girl's signal is horrible and so is my sister's who's also on the same network.

As for call quality, they had a very superior call quality back in 98 that they made vodacom's mediocre. I don't know about now though but I'm more than happy with vodacom's. As a matter of fact, the only area I can fault vodacom is on their expensive contract deals and that's it.

@ Hintza:
Ya that was even in today's newspaper here; there was an article and a pic of some volunteers around the beached whales. Part of the article said 'near Cape Town', (although no mention or connection made to those Navy exercises) so I was wondering if it was more drama around Melkbos/Blaauwberg, but obviously when I read Kommetjie it was then all too apparent that it was a whole lot more further south/around the mountain, LOL.

Wow, super CPU stuff (taken from GSMArena):

'Qualcomm's QSD8650A Snapdragon is a 1.3 GHz monster
1 June, 2009

It has only been several months since the Toshiba TG01 and its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU were officially unveiled and here comes something else to look forward to. The 1.3GHz Qualcomm's QSD80650A Snapdragron CPU boasts a major 30% speed upgrade over the existing 1GHz Snapdragon chipset.

The QSD80650A Snapdragon certainly sounds like the next big thing in the portable devices industry. Sporting the same 15 x 15mm size as it predecessor it offers immense capabilities, including 2D and 3D acceleration, integrated GPS, high-def video recording and playback, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi. The new Snapdragon CPU supports displays of up to WXGA (1280x800 pixels) resolution and comes with multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G connectivity. Sounds like the core of a sweet netbook, doesn't it?

What makes the QSD8650A even sweeter is that it will consume 30% less power than its 1GHz sibling, which should result in major increase in the battery life of the devices utilizing it. The reason for the greatly increased efficiency is that the new CPU uses a reduced 45nm manufacturing processes.

Qualcomm QSD8650A chipset is said to become available for sampling before the end of 2009, so the first devices running it should appear somewhere in 2010.'

Check what Samsung's due to have out this month in Europe and worldwide in August (apparently)... (take note, ...)

To quote Mario: " Go Samsung go!" LOL.

Esato thread on this phone:

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=185956

Taken from GSMArena:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsu[....]tion_with_pixon12-news-941.php

'Samsung have long been rumored to have a 12 megapixel cameraphone in the works. Well, now it sees daylight for the first time - meet the Pixon12 - the first 12MP cameraphone to hit the market, scheduled for a June launch.

The M8910 is the model number standing behind the Pixon12. The new cameraphone pointed as Sony Ericsson Satio (a.k.a. Idou) competitor makes its mark with a 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a highly advertised 10000:1 contrast.

And taking where the original Pixon left, the Samsun Pixon12 now sports Wi-Fi connectivity along with the GPS receiver.

The Samsung Pixon12 camera goes further in to the mobile photography offering a 28mm wide-angle lens, both a xenon and a power LED flash (how's that for a change), D1 video recording at 30fps, tracking Touch Auto Focus, Smart Auto mode changing with the lighting conditions and all the rest typical high-end camera features such as geo-tagging, face detection, etc.
The rest of the Samsung Pixon12 specs are close to what the the Samsung M8800 Pixon offered - 150MB internal storage and a microSD card slot, HSDPA support and Bluetooth.

The Samsung Pixon12 won't be a smartphone, so expect the usual Samsung TouchWiz UI with some visual upgrades. Responding to the reactions of the end users to the lack of Wi-Fi in the Pixon, Samsung will offer it here in the Pixon12.

Quite unfortunate for all of you that were finally sold after the Omnia HD, the Samsung Pixon12 will be available across the Europe in June and will be expanded worldwide in August to make this summer's cellphone choice that much harder. There is no word on pricing yet.'

Too true.
Hintza
True that, i think it has around 150mb RAM at boot up in total, theres absolutely no way anyone can use that up on a S60, even OperaMini will struggle to eat that up . I think we're gonna see A LOT of Quake PC to S60 type game ports now since the hardware is where it should be, Quake takes 25-30mb RAM to play lol.
Wanqa
Realy exciting times we're living in, i WOULD say imagine what type of phones we'd be using in 10years but i doubt we can so imagine what we will in 5years 1.3GHz with less power useage? In just a matter of months, realy scary, now if they could just bring out better battery tech lol.
That Pixon12 looks realy interesting, SE once again beaten at their own game so people were right the Satio is going to be outdated by the time its released, shame its just not working out for
I still want an Innov8 though lol,im sick of this touchscreen hype.
