The fonetastic price is for a contract phone with Vodaphone though

Voda is a good company to go with. One of the largest in the world, so good if you travel. Now it is July 1. No 2nd qtr. release for the P990. SE better steps up the pace.

what I mean by contract phone on Vodaphone is that you are paying full price for the phone so there is no benefit as you are tied to them for a year

What about just ordering the phone from sweden? tbh.se has p990 listed at aprox. 470 pounds???? I did it with the P900 a few yars ago and it worked perfectly. If find the co.uk prices a little steep! |

Nah. It's about 430£... plus shipping. But you'll find it cheaper after release.

I think you have a good point here. I think the new Symbian 9.1 devices are cheaper to make. Witness the relative low price of he Nokia E61 and the dramatic reduction in the M600 price in the UK from UKP399 to around UKP315 within two weeks. And the price of the M600 keeeps reducing. I sustpect its natural price is around UKP290.

i think the rise to prominance of windows mobile device especially pda/phones must be credited with the decline in price of the symbian phones like E60and M600 not to mention relatively decent competition within the symbian manufacturers as Nokia starts to put some decent phones on within this range |

The HTC JasJar is around UKP620 the M600 is UKP315 or UKP270 (UK shipped) on eBay. Now the difference in features between the JJ and the M600 cannot justify the 50% difference in price. I think Symbian 9.1's real-time capability and the lowering of the licence fees for the OS means Symbian based devices can be manufactured for less. Competition probably led to these basic changes. Anyway, it means the P990 should in theory be much cheaper then the UK Expansys price of UKP665 and even lower then the play.com UKP499 by December. My view is that if the P990 can be sold SIM free around UKP400 then WM5 devices will have great difficulty in competing on features/price. My view on pricing once supply has improved:
M600 - UKP279
W950 - UKP349
P990 - UKP429

yeah, most places were in the mid-500's though some (expansys) were as high as £600 I recall, but you can expect £500 and above for the P990 I guess
