I'd like to know something:-

On the 1020 you can zoom up to 3x on stills and on video recording you can zoom 4x in 1080p and 6x in 720p.

On the Z1 how far can you zoom when recording in 720p and 1080p?

Thanks.

i think in video recording mode, the only zoom available is DIGITAL zoom, which isn't really zoom. I don't think Z1 has the same lossless zoom in video mode from samples i've seen.

PS.

i'm a bit sad. looks like due to the time difference, my Z1 order won't be shipped until tomorrow, which means a wednesday arrival. I guess that's ok, since my microSD card won't arrive until wednesday too.

Also, for those americans looking for a magnetic charging cable, i just found this on amazon. i suppose it's not much different than ordering from ebay, but i tend to like doing things on amazon more. seems less sketchy..

Good idea, that can be my unboxing video! I'll be like oops, it's in the wash.

Make sure it's a cool wash though, I don't think the Z1 would appreciated being boiled alive.

now that would be a cool "can you do this?" type video to show off not only the Z1's waterproof feature, but also it's durability to survive being in the wash! It's probably too big to ever forget in your pocket while throwing it in the washer, but still. it would make a cool video.

@northmonkey - yah it is a bit disappointing but definitely not a deal breaker. Once i get my Z1 and have a bit of time, I will test the zoom out and post samples here.

Note 3 comes out on top based on THOSE photos. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I really hate these photo shootout comparisons that do not give all the details of settings, conditions, and full res images for examination..

Sorry to say the Z1 pics aren't very good, dear oh dear Sony don't you ever learn? I'm betting the S5 Camera will beat the Z1 & Z2 Camera as well, All Sony camera's are a let down, the Xperia S, T, Z and now Z1.

Samsung seem to get it right whereas Sony seem to always get it wrong.

I just received my Xperia Z and it's Camera isn't very good.

@northmonkey - go to the Z thread and look at samples. is your Z updated to the latest firmware? supposedly it improves the camera a lot. that's all i'll say about it here as it is OFF TOPIC.

back ON TOPIC:

Z1 photos are inconsistent. Some are amazing, some aren't very good. Not sure what the problem is, but I intend to find out once I get mine. If i'm able to produce stunning photos that make even the biggest critics on esato give a thumbs up, then we'll know that the problem lies with the photographer and specific settings, not the Z1's ability.

To be continued..

@MNX - RAWR AT RAW
