it seems to me you are an insider.... so I ask you... How is it possible, that SE Service Center 2 days ago updated my phone to R1ED001 but did not my EROM it is still R3A011..
In an earlier post you said, that the erom update is offered to service staff when trying to update firmware.

Can I ask Where you got the update done.

All the UK service centers have to update the EROM before the phone can be updated to the latest software version.

It also Depends on how they update the phone. ** Via which server they connect to **

Is this also true of updates via SEUS ?

I updated my O2 UK branded K800i to R1ED001 using SEUS, but the EPROM level still reports as R3A011 - or does the EPROM version number not get updated even though the EPROM does ? (Which would make it a bug). Is there any way to check ?

Ah, but that's why I asked as
1) Darrrengf says that service centres have to update the EPROM to perform the firmware update - if SEUS can do it without the update then why can't service centres ?

2) He's also said that SEUS needed to be rewritten to be able to update the EPROM so as to be able to update the firmware - if that was/is correct it implies that the EPROM should also be have been upgraded by SEUS as one wasn't possible without the other - see my confusion ?

Perhaps while SEUS isn't updating the EPROM that line should be removed from "improvements" as it doesn't apply to all devices. The same probably applies to the internet button action. Perhaps a seperate section is needed for these 'differences' which are dependant on flash method.

And can someone tell me if the Nokia like menu which pops up on a short push of the power button is new with R1ED001, or has it been there all the time and I have been pushing the power button for too long to see it previously ?

UK Service Centers dont use SEUS. Service Centers connect via another way, When they connect using there own update system, this then tells them to update the EROM before continuing

You can update the phones firmware with out upgrading the EROM. Again SEUS does this, Currenlty SEUS can only handle one thing at a time, this is the Update that it was intentialy made to do

Updating the EROM is not just pressing the C Key and the update takes place. The update uses a few more keys at a time, unplugging the phone, Pressing the keys again, removing the battery and it then updates.

This is why SEUS doesnt update the EROM, They are trying to make the software do all that so you dont have to mess around.

On the first post it does say SEUS doesnt update the EROM

Its been there all the time

Hope this answers your questions.

Please all, don't be dizzy with this EROM upgrade. With or without this upgrade, your phone simply works perfectly, right? Why bothers? IMHO, the phones sent to Service Center are mostly troublesome. And the solution is by updating EROM. Remember, it was said that the' inability to power on' is very rare, so not all phones suffer from this phenomenon. So, enjoy the phone!

Other findings on R1ED001, please others verify:
After updating via SEUS, I don't know if Wotan too, I notice that some mp3 files can't be played anymore. It was revealed by accident when I scrolled through my Music folder. I have these message alerts downloaded from SE Fun&Downloads section of K800i or other type, I forget---Jangler, Alien Noise and Pulse---and now they simply can't be played! Whenever I manually play it, it says : can't play this sound. Other mp3 files--ringtones, songs--can be played perfectly. I don't know why. I have deleted them, and re-installed, but it was no success. As a note, they are just fine when played with WinAmp, on K750i and W800i. On the previous f/w they are played perfectly..
Anyway, as I'm on Opera Mini, I can't provide a direct link to get the files I mean. But the two of the files are under Message Alerts on:
http://wap.sonyericsson.com/fun/mxhtml/changedevice?cc=GLOBAL&dn=K800i&lc=en

Alien Noise and Jangler are located on page 2 of Message Alerts section. By PC, get .dd file, open with NotePad to get the true link. Via phone browser, just download it. As a note K610 user with this R1ED platform can't play the files either.

EDIT: Pulse can be found under M600i Message Alert section:
http://wap.sonyericsson.com/fun/mxhtml/changedevice?cc=GLOBAL&dn=M600i&lc=en
I just remembered of which phone Pulse officially belongs to just now.
