Thinking of getting a Toshiba NB100 mini-laptop (netbook) later today. 120 gig hard drive, 1 gig of RAM etc. Carphone Warehouse here have got a good deal on with them and it'll be ideal for when we're in SA and visiting other countries.

Gonna stick with XP though; Linux doesn't hold all the 'netbook' trump cards like they used to when these tiny laptops first began emerging in various forms and guises.

I've read plenty articles on all of these, checked out offerings from Acer, HP, Asus, Advent, MSI, Samsung etc. There definitely are some better netbooks out there than the li'l Tosh, but not for the money that CPW are asking... (approx R3800).

A belated Happy Birthday, Gucci, hope you a swell one and that the year ahead will hold wonderful things for you.

These days time is a scarce commodity for me. I'm no longer in the classroom, which is a bit sad but then again, I don't mind the change of pace either. I'm due to be seconded to the Educ. Dept's offices to work in the Legal division, but until such time, I've been keeping busy doing proofreading and editing. You guys would be blown away to read the drivel that some people churn out, seriously... Apart from the Educ.Departmental work (which is scary at best), the freelance stuff is just as entertaining. We're talking a political analyst, some businessmen, an accountant or two and even a few Oxford types who really ought not to mangle the Queen's English as badly as they do.

Having said that, I was seriously considering one of those Netbooks as well, Wanqa. I still have a couple of months to make up my mind, but for now I'm biding my time.

Thats a bloody good question GUCCI,one which I think you already know the answer too but thanks anyway for asking.lol
Its a tough one.Do I get sucked into all of this cellphone madness that is going on at the present moment,or do I finally say, enough is enough and call it a day, still left with a pretty capable handset (E90)
I just kind of know that no-matter what handset I choose,I will never be satisfied. Not to mention all this money going down Vodacoms gullet and which ever brand I choose.
Kinda getting sick of it all to be ohnest with you.I think its a definite. This contract is going down the toilet.
I wanna spend some money now on getting my PC up-to-date (looking for some serious storage for all my music, give it a RAM boost, get a better processor,a nice 19" widescreen flatron,a nice graphics card ect ect)
These pay-ins that I usually hand over for these phones are normally a substantial amount of dosh.Think I gotta be a bit more sensible.
So the answer to your question is....the E90 is here to stay for the next year and a half.Would truly love a new phone but hey, some thing you gotta say no too.Ive had a good run of insanity....Nokia 6600>Nokia 6680>Sony Ericsson P990i>Nokia N95-8gb and now the Nokia E90.All the phones prior to the E90 only lasted a handful of months. So the cycle has got to stop because if I couldnt be happy with that cool selections of phones,I dont think anything is going to do the trick.

Lol, Hobbs, id both love and hate to be in your position right now,but then id probably do the not so smart thing and get the new phone.
Well my N81 has chosen to now give me a major problem, and its the same problem the N80 has, the ribbon in the slider seems to have either worn out or is loose, everytime i slide up the screen it the display just fades away, and doesnt come back on. hopefully the okes over at V-World can fix it.

Well, after spending ages deciding which netbook to get, even though I'd thought I'd narrowed it down to a definite choice, I eventually bought the Toshiba. Checked out CPW's netbooks, then PC World, and Staples. Was in each for quite a while, haggling to get a good deal with the netbook and an external DVD writer/reader, and eventually got the best deal with Staples.

The new Samsung NC 10 and 20's, and HP netbooks look far nicer though, as do the Acer Aspires, Dell Mini and Fujitsu offerings, but for the money and specs, I've reason to be pretty happy with it.
