@ M-Oli
The new Samsung is $120 cheaper if you sign up for a talker/texter plan, so under $800 for a brand new 8MP phone is not bad at all!
As for 2 Degrees I'm surprised to hear that Telecom is blocking them, as this is the brand name of NZ Comms you can see when you do a network search. Their towers are virtually all in so I don't see how they can be shut down?
And I didn't win $1000, then again I won a Sanyo 7400 in the Rock/Paper?scissors tournament Telecom had back a few years now, prerelease at $899 rrp! I guess I can't expect too much lol...

It's not the mobile network their blocking, it a lack of agreement over termination rates to landlines.

Also on the National Business Review site is some comments from an upset XT customer:
I have a XT SIM and E71 from TCNZ
I feel stupid I went out and purchased a E71 on a XT plan I have dropped 4 out of 6 calls today using the phone in my house. Never did that before on my Sanyo phone. So now I am testing the XT network for you telecom and not impressed. I will give it another week if not fixed I want my Sanyo phone hooked up again or another provider is looking better.

People ring me
Calls are not ringing on my phone but going to voice mail, Should this happen? I called my number from office phone and it did the same thing twice and then the 3rd time phone rung. What am I doing wrong??

Called Telecom help desk
I was advised Telecom do not have SIM cards and my phone must be a Vodaphone handset and to call them. Now I am confused

I've heard some rumours too...
Apparently one of the first day release phones has had so many out-of-the-box failures that there has been a recall. Not sure of the model, but I was in Christchurch's brand new (and so damn awesome) Dick Smith store earlier tonight and they were still selling the W705 so I assume SE is safe.
Another rumour I heard is that using an iPhone on XT is causing trouble. The phone can send text messages but won't receive! People are saying there are terrible delays with things like activations too, due to overwhelming popularity. You'd think Telecom would have planned for this.
And I find it funny that there are so many dropped call complaints, when earlier tonight I saw a (terrible) Telecom ad in which Richard Hammond and some irritating woman were 'testing' (read: pretending to test) the network to see how much they had to do to make it drop a call. They ended up dropping the girl in the ocean in a container and the network still held up apparently.
A few things annoyed me about that ad: One was that even if they were testing the network, they were obviously doing it before it opened for public use, so the network could hardly have been under pressure. And two, surely there are other things that are more important than dropped calls. If dropped calls is a worry for your network, then surely that shows that you're incapable of running it. Thirdly, the testing was all done in and around Auckland, which is hardly going to be a low or bad reception zone due to it being their largest customer base in NZ. Completely ridiculous.
Personally I'm going to wait a month or two and see how the situation is then. But so far it looks to be a bad start from New Zealand's crappiest network.

Have you (or any of the other members here) been having trouble with your HSDPA/3G connection recently? I sthis part of the interference problem? Because it's starting to wear thin with me... My GF is away for the weekend and I've been trying to video call her to show her some furniture I'm buying for our new place but no joy...

At home I've noticed I don't get HSDPA or 3G coverage as freely as I had been. I didn't even consider that it could be an interference problem...
You should call Vodafone, and provided you get through to a New Zealander, you might get free stuff!

Yea, its got the screen like the c905's, which has an excellent screen.
Anyone think vodafone might be falsely advertising when they say "New Zealands first mobile with an 8 megapixel camera"? I live in New Zealand, and I had an 8 megapixel cameraphone before them...

Yeah you and Soane28 should both go sue Vodafone...
I have seen a few W705 dummies around and I gotta say I was quite impressed too. I really really hate the look of the G705 (which it is based on) and I know I said I didn't like the W705 when it was first announced, but after seeing it in the flesh I have changed my mind. Nothing spectacular, but nice all the same. I still hate the G705 though.

I tried out a W705 in-store on Day 1 of XT and I found it pretty nice too. Anyone tried T-World - Telecoms version of Vodafone Live! ?

As keen as I was on the Idou, I'm thinking Aino at the moment. I like the combination of keypad and touchscreen.
BTW, V640i cheap at DSE -$199.
And save $200 on iPhone 8GB/16GB when signing on to an iPhone 40 24month plan. That makes the 16GB less than what I paid for my 8GB.

Remember when I said that one of Telecom's phones was recalled due to an overwhelming number of out-of-box failures? I just found out what phone that was... The C510a!
I wondered why I never saw it in Telecom stores.

I transferred my 027 CDMA over to XT on saturday. Took untill Sunday evening to connect which was fine, but I have to use my K850! The X1 and C902 dont have 850mhz 3G! Gutted. Seen the W705 in action the other day too. A little bit ugly but nice to use. Went to see some old workmates in my old Telecom Store for the low down. Not as many coverage complaints as they were expecting! I can definately vouch for AMAZING HSDPA coverage. Having trouble getting correct access points etc configured. When My sim was finally connected, I was flooded with all these settings texts and only 1 worked - the rest were incompatible! They must just spam settings to every connection to try get everyone online (wap, mms, etc) without having to use customer services. Cheeky sods.
