from Nokia 1020 review at GSMArena
Sony Xperia Z1 has just hit the shelves and is priced closely to the Lumia 1020. The latest Japanese flagship also relies on a newly developed camera sensor and technology. It comes with a 20.7MP Exmor RS Sony sensor with a Superior Auto mode that produces 8MP shots from the raw 20.7MP images - Sony's answer to Nokia's PureView photos. Unfortunately, the Z1 can't keep both the full resolution shot and the downsized shot like the Lumia 1020. It also lacks optical image stabilization and a xenon flash. Not to mention that even the downsampled shots are nothing to write home about and the full resolution 20MP photos are lackluster. Despite having a 1080p display, the Xperia Z1 TFT unit is nowhere near the quality of the Lumia 1020's AMOLED screen. In fact, Sony's only advantages over the Lumia 1020 are its water-protection shell and probably, the Android OS (which is not little by all means).
Didn't I need to stress a little further my utter disgust over the reviewer at GSMA for turning on the "full retard" switch? guys convince me why must I still trust GSMArena reviews after this

+1
i showed that the Z1 is better snapper than the iphone 5s.
it wins in some situations against the lumia 1020. bending the laws of physics
it has the best specs in any smartphone in the world atm.
it is dust and waterproof.
it is beautiful.
GSMARENA sucks.
phone arena did well actually.. |

Z1's HW internals are no slouch, never, and 1020's HW is complete rubbish compared to it, basically in almost everything except the camera and the overrated AMOLED screen, yet it's priced similarly to the Z1. now can GSMarena explain to me why Z1 only has "two" advantages over it? and funny thing is that GSMArena didn't even bother to compare it with the 808PV (discrediting it completely due to it being a retired model) just when everyone knows the 1020 couldn't even surpass the "true" PV as sonysta keeps telling us (which I agreed upon personally)

@sponse
Phone Arena suddenly become non biased but at the same time GSM Arena become biased when review SONY Z1 why? Why can't both be non biased at the same time?

Piece of cr..p.
Plus when you look at this comparative chart, you'll see Z1 giving better photo than 1020,
at least on colour poster with full res.

@XperiaJunkie - your google+ album isn't shared publicly. so no one has permission to view it. But, those are great samples you took and on the newest firmware (first update) it sounds like.
@geoffxx - nice shots. where are the full res images? what firmware are you on?
Hopefully my Z1 will ship today and when I get it, I will gladly fill this thread (and the other one) with samples and make everyone in here scroll for days. My goal is to take up one whole page of this thread with my samples alone.

As for quality, some pics are bad, some good. Maybe it is software fault. |

@XperiaJunkie - strange, but for some reason, I am unable to really ZOOM into your photos. Not sure why. I can see from the photo details they are 8mp which is correct for Superior Auto. But, Google is not letting me zoom more than say.. 20% further than the default size. I wonder why that is.
