Okay – I (dare to) have a suggestion for a future version of SMan (in case it has not already been implemented and I haven’t been able to find it).

Yesterday my brother came over and started playing with my P910i. He obviously opened almost all programs and the phone started to be really slow. I tried to activate SMan by pressing the internet button in order to free memory, but even SMan wouldn’t start. Since I don’t have the “flipclose flush” activated, I had to hold the power button and force a reset.

Given this experience I was wondering if it wouldn’t be possible to induce a task flush by holding the internet key (or whatever SMan activation button you have) for a predefined amount of time – let’s say 10 secs.

So basically, the idea is to have in the options dropdown box, along with the other choices, the option “10 secs forced flush” that we could check and when enabled, it would induced a forced flush based on the snapshot, WITHOUT bringing in the SMan window (hence operating similarly to the flipclose flush). I really think this would make a nice EMERGENCY solution.

What do you guys think? Might that be useful to us? And more important, are Ajack and Droll willing to implement such an option? What do you say, Ajack? Is it feasible?

@judge:

Thanks for the suggestion. Don't know if we can put that in into SMan v1.4 but would be something I'll forward to Droll for his consideration.

Would a time-out for idle programs that are not in the snapshot list be a good idea?

actually the flush in background is already there but it needs to be assigned to the hotkey as a long keypress. what's missing is the "10 second timer" thingy. hold down the key about 2-3 seconds and it activates the flush (if u've assigned it thus).

Hi all,

I have released SMan v1.4 beta 1 for users interested in testing this. However, Esato does not allow me to upload anything with my posts except pictures.

You can find this installer at SE Central or My-Symbian's forums. Please do not redistribute the installer as it has an expiry code in it set at 1-Apr-2005 (it is a beta).

Not trying to shift users here to other forums but does anybody know how to post a ZIP file here in Esato?

The reason why I did not mention I-Symbian earlier was because I had problems uploading the beta there, but now it's fixed.

where should we post if we are finding issues with SMan 1.4?

I already posted this in the SMan 1.4 available soon thread...

I tried the soft reset function several times on my P910a, it shuts the phone down fine, but doesn't power it back up. I still have to go through pushing the button and selecting between flight mode and power on.

to those who have already installed sman v1.4, do u uninstall the previous version first or just install over the existing one? and does it result in loss of user settings by doing the latter? or to be on the safe side i should backup the SMan.cfg and SMan.snp files just like what the manual says? because in this case its upgrading v1.3 to v1.4.
thought i'd check with u guys first.

You do not need to uninstall v1.3 to install v1.4. You can backup the .cfg file but the .snp file format has changed so you will need to do a new snapshot.

The good thing about this beta (and future versions of SMan) is that when you upgrade to the final release, you will not lose your configuration settings anymore.

The one side effect that some users have noticed is that if you had previous version of SMan installed in drive C: and when you install the new version in D:, you will seem to "lose" your Network Info and InfoStore data which is actually in drive C: and you will need to manually move the files across. My suggestion, install SMan in drive C: always.

Only thing you should install in D: is your TTF fonts.

Attached is SMan v1.4 beta 2, this fixes a problem in the Network Info module where the SMS notification section has a bug.

Please go back to the same place where you got v1.4 beta 1 to download the updated beta.
