Engadget has the results of some web site speed tests between the iphone 3g, 3gs and palm pre and it seems the 3gs has a 21% advantage over the pre, and 122% over the 3g
I see they did the tests using wifi and I have to say I have seen the biggest improvement when using wifi as pages really do appear much quicker than they used to.
As someone who does alot of data on my phones, unfortunately the O2 3g experience is quite a bit less different between the 3g and the 3gs, though the different is still noticeable. O2 still have to bring their network up to iphone standards for us to get the most from it on 3g.
I suspect though, now that I have the 3gs as payg with my contract sim from last July, when the 18 months is up in Jan I will probably move back to tmobile which has always given me the best performance for data

Sounding good, all you new owner are making me jealous. Just gotta wait for either getting an unlocked one from the EU or the dev team to unlock the 3Gs.
I have to admit the wait is killing me!

Can someone clarify, if I buy a 3GS, can I use the o2 PAYG sim with it purely for browsing? I use a Vertu onm Orange as my main phone, so the 3GS would be purely for WiFi browsing and email as at work, home and various other places I go frequently I have WiFi set up everywhere.
I would only plan to actually use the o2 sim in places where there is no WiFi. In my current iphone I dont even have a working sim in it, its only on Wifi.
ANy thoughts? Also does the PAYG o2 sim have unlimited data?
Thanks

when you buy the payg 3gs, you have to also get a minimum £10 top up on top of the purchase price, but that is just for calls/texting etc. The payg comes with 12 month free unlimited wifi and 3g and thats what I'll be using my payg sim for as I've now put my contract sim in the iphone

White one looks a bit weird, white at the back black at the front.
Is there any cool remote control for iphones? (with pause, start, skip) Iphone headphones are one big crap, I got used to nice SE style:/ After 2 days playing with it I must say I like this os, fast speed, apps etc. But I prefered w960i music quality even with SE headphones used with iphone. I ordered Sennheisers, then I will see. On one song Common - Everywhere (v cool track;] ) when I set more bass in ipod settings, there is a lot of popping, cracking (instead beats) coming out of iphone (using built in speaker or any pai of headphones), even though it sounds great on my hifi, pc, w960. |

Masseur: By free WiFi I assume you are referring to free WifI through O2 when I am out and about in public places. I take it I can still connect to my own Wifi connections free of charge with using the sim's connection? Thanks

your own wifi is free, of course, but O2 also offer wifi through partners such as The Cloud and BT Openzone. Also, after your first connection to each partner service where you key your phone number in, the connection is automatic.

Perfectly explained. So great, I have my own WiFi at home and in the office, and 3G WiFI through O2/partner networks when I am out and about. Then I can continue using my trusted Vertu just for calls and sms with Orange. Wahoo, fantastic Masseur, thanks for clearing it up.
Might go an collect a 32gb 3GS from Apple in Dubai tom.

Hi can anyone tell me if the iPhone 3GS has a TFT screen? I have been trying google but can't find the info anywhere
Just want to know as it means I can see it in sunlight. This will prove important with the Tom Tom holder and app on a sunny day. |

I can't be sure what the screen technology is, though I assume its TFT
but more importably, I use my iPhone outside alot of the time and can't recall having any problem seeing the screen outdoors, though of course, in extreme sunlight you may need to put the iPhone in your own shadow. Its not something to worry about IMHO
