Out on the streets, and in my circle of friends, colleagues, and associates, i am still seeing a pretty high percentage of SE phones.

Of all the people i know and work with etc, i see a high percentage of Nokia owners complaining about the battery life on their phones.

I also see a lot of people i associate with, unhappy with the user interfaces of their Moto, and Samsung phones.

It is a fairly true statement that any set of statistics can be made to say what ever a party wants. It all depends how the question is worded, and the statistics filtered.

I think in this case, SE is not doomed, but it certainly needs to change its management thinking, which, i feel it has probably done by now. ( Mizzle and co will have better info on this than i.)

I think it is only fair that Mr K has a chance to show what he can do, and by that i mean longer than a couple of months.
It will probably take 12 months or more for the change in direction to become totally evident on the streets.
I feel he is more than likely responsible for the cancellation of the recent phones, because he felt they didnt fit in the portfolio.

Cut em some slack, boys. I'm confident they'll be back. Patience is needed.
If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes ?

SE need to do what made them popular in the first place, be the company that makes the phones everyone wants.

They need to bring out an all round phone like the N95/6 and N82. The W902 has the specs yet looks cheap, which is why I'm not getting one.

Currently I don't see anything decent from SE atm thats cool and innovative or that I want.

I remember my W900...that was a decent phone. It did the job of being a phone very well and also had a very good camera for the time...and still now, plus a music player if my ipod runs out of battery and not to forget excelent battery life.

SE need to make another device with the same effect the K800 had and not skimp on any features like walkman phones with no af.

They need a 6300/6500 classic type device thats simple yet stylish and not cheap. i.e. not be made from cheap plastic with UI from the K750 and look like a toy phone.

And also some cool phones with walkman and cybershot capabilities in the same handset, like the W902, and a 3.5 mm jack if they are gona save themselves.

I'm enjoying the W760i (after the FW update)

A very solid phone, good reception, nice looking, latest features.

I consider myself a Nokia and SE fan. What i think is that yes SE have gone off the boil for a while now and they dont have a big a portfolio as Nokia for instance. But i believe they will and perhaps are bouncing back. Currently their C902 is the 2nd biggest contract phone seller. Also some of their latest offerings i have had the pleasure of playing with and found them to be of good quality. Fair enough they need a rocket up their backsides regarding smartphones cos they just dont have many. I also think despite its success Walkman and Cybershot branding is by no means a sign of quality. Just cos of a name does not mean its going to be great. I have had one or two dedicated Cybershot digital cameras and image quality was quite average. They need an all in one quality handset with no fancy branding or names. I think SE will bounce back though perhaps some heads should roll at the top.

Give it up - I think we all know the list is longer than that. I'm on it.

SE have got the basics...good battery life, bulit quality, and a great UI which is why I want my next phone to be a SE. But they need to make phones with good cameras and music players rather than one or the other.

Firstly it wasn't me that suggested the buying habits of the Esato forum where the be all and end all that was carkitters absurd suggestion. But lets face it if even on a pro SE forum so many are now dismayed with SE's bug ridden offerings and are choosing devices from other manufacturers it can't be good for SE or can it?

but by saying that you are assuming that SE members are primarily the same kind of people as general SE users. But you forget one thing. The type of people here are generally (of course there are fan boy exceptions), but generally much more demanding than the general public, and this is why you see a high number of traditional Esatonians turning to the N82 etc. Not all by any means and not all the discerning users either. I still use an SE phone, and I consider myself a very knowledgeable and tech savy end user (something that 90% of mobile phone users in the general public cannot claim). In my case, the type of SE phones I gravitate towards have not given me the grief that you and others complain about, so I'm not gonna get all anti-SE about phones. Sure I wish my K800 had had qvga recording. I wish my W910 had a faster media player interface (mib will like that statement). But overall I am very happy with SE handsets. If you think that means I am a clueless SE fanboy then I would be very offended tbh.

So I am not demanding about the things you may consider most important, but I am demanding about ergonomics (and SE satisfy my demands in this regard, Nokia and Samsung do not), I am demanding about imaging, SE satisfy my demands in this area just a little bit better than Nokia (whose failings are more off putting to me than their benefits - and I'm happy to accept that for some people the opposite would be true), I am demanding about style, and for me Nokia have boring handsets deviod of personality. Sorry but that's the way I see it. I'm not saying these are absolute values. Not at all. Other people may have different views. But I can guarantee you this, the is NO ABSOLUTE truth when it comes to these facets. What is truth for one is phallacy for another.

If you think that most people buy phones only based on a spec sheet, then you seriously misjudge about 99% of phone buyers.

Sorry but if you are seriously trying to suggest that the last 2Q of SE results are just a blip and nothing to worry about your insane.

and I'm sure they will respond to this challange, just as all the main phone OEM's go up and down in popularity. It's never over until the fat lady sings. And so far I ain't heard no fat lady singing for SE. You can't claim someone is insane for believing SE can still make a comeback when they are currently 5th place down from 4th in marketshare in a market of hundreds of different manufacturers. Motorola, LG and SE are all very close and the situation could change at any time.

I agree with this 100%. Even the dedicated cybershot statement. I think K850 and N95 were on par once you weighed up advantages and disadvantages of both. K800 was great, as good as any other 3.2MP phone out there, but not as good as it could have been.

But some of the lower end cybershots, for example a cybershot without AF? That's a joke. Now W910 without AF fair enough, but a cybershot? As you say the branding is not the defining factor.

The K850i was real watershed low point IMO, the C series is much better and deserves to bring returned success to SE.

What cyber-shot didnt have AF?

And one of the W910's rivals, the U600 had more megapixels and AF...SE just dont do the market reseach and find out what people want...the just assume.

sorry my bad. I made the mistake of believing something that someone said on this forum a little while ago. I'll check my facts better in future

the u600 has a smaller screen and no 3G (let alone HSDPA) so more interior space = room to put a 3MP AF camera. (though the handset is thinner it has about the same total volume and weight as the w910)

I like the W910, and I'm disappointed that it doesn't have AF, but hey that's life. There are any number of nice phones SE has produced that have AF and play music perfectly well, I don't see the issue honestly. Why doesn't the U600 have HSDPA? According to many arguments I've had here lack of HSDPA is a crime of massive proportions and a blight on SE that will damn them to hell....

As far as I can see you buy the phone you want the most. If you want a Walkman branded phone then you are just playing the "style without substance" game. If you want a decent camera then who cares it's a "walkman" phone or not??

The W910 is a hell of a lot better than the U600...but I still feel the W910 needed AF and a flash. I made the mistake of not getting the W910 as it didnt have AF and a flash and got the K850 (as I didnt have a camera at the time). But it was false econemy(I dont know how to spell it) as the K850 was a pile of crap and my mum got the W910 and I was very jelous...now shes gets her upgrade next month shes giving it to me

As I have an iPod and now a camera I dont need the fancy features...but do like a nice looking phone. I do like the 6500 classic and think SE needs to come up with a rival for it.

I also like the iPhone and am looking into buying one.
