Hi all,
Can someone verify something for me, I haven't been able to find the answer to this probably easy question. Now that Apple have announced that the 8GB 3G iPhone will retail for no more than $199, i.e. somewhere in the region of £100, can I just order directly from the Apple store and simply slide in my 02 sim and continue with my existing 02 contract at £20 per month or whatever it is, rather than switching to a £30 contract and be tied it for the next 18 months?

no you won't be able to do that, now that o2 are subsadising the iPhone, they'll be doing activations instore and the same at the apple stores. |

Also the 3G iPhone is meant to have its sim card pre-installed as part of the manufacturing process, so it looks very bleak for sim swapping on o2 or other networks.

a la CDMA? or do you mean hard locking the phone to one sim card? if so, that's illegal in the UK, it's not even monopoly, it's worse than that!........ unless you request it!

Yeah, that makes sense. Either way I think I've made my decision. I've seen a few so-so reviews of the G900 which 'was' going to be my next phone, so the iPhone it is. I've registered my details with 02. I've been a customer of theirs for a considerable number of years, and whilst I haven't been paying high monthly fees, they've still made a fair bit of money out of me. It would nice to see some sort of deal/offer for existing customers, but I guess these phones will be flying out of stores at an unprecedented rate so it's not like they need to offer existing customers special deals. Can I cope with the crappy camera? We'll see

considering I paid £350 for my 16gb before I sussed out and had confidence with unlocking, I'd probably go for this payg to start with while waiting for ziphone (or someone else) to get the unlocking sorted
also, having officially activated, we'll be able to get real warranty (not that I needed it so far)
not bad at all really considering what was previously thought they would charge (£400+)

Well i registered my details with them for this as i been with O2 pay and go for one year now. The deals look great i cant wait free Wi Fi and internet and only £10 quid after that. Im loving that. Only thing i think is odd is on a phone so high end as this why no mms. Very bizarre. |

Hi all,
Was just reading August's T3 which has a 3G iPhone review and it says,
"With speeds of up to 1.8mbps" "However actual speeds will will vary a lot depending on where you are"
Not sure but is this a iPhone limitation or down to 02?
Marc

I would take anything T3 say with a large pinch of salt as I'm sure they don't actually "review" products in the way we understand reviewing. They tend to just rattle off stuff from the official web site and/or press releases etc and inject a bit of humour and show lots of glossy pics
I'd suggest waiting for a real review
