Anyway, that guy from What Mobile that posts at my-symbian, John Morris, said next UIQ devices from SE will also have more RAM

I'd say that SE has learned a lot from us, maybe they will give us one.... for beta testing
Actually I don't really have a problem with the amount of RAM. The phone uses 14 processes after a reclaim with SM, so I'm assuming this is the minimum required number of processes for P990 basic operation. At most I would use WLAN+RSS+Opera+FM radio and the phone seems to be doing fine except sometimes for Opera. In fact I've never run out of memory unless I use Opera.
On the other hand, if the same team of programmers and project managers are going to write the firmware for these next generation devices, it wouldn't matter if they have 1 GB of memory, they will still have the memory leak and the restarts. I'm still hoping that SE will get some real programmers instead of the novices and fix the P990 as I think hardwarewise it still has great potential.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

Still so far so good no restart yet. got an average 9 to 13 mb ram free. but then again the phone was not used heavily in the last 12 hours.

Lets hope SE will be bringing out another P-series soon with much mre RAM. As for E90, I rather carry my laptop huh?

Until the next firmaware update........or a new P series -----cheers

As for the HK FW, I wouldn't hold my breath on an update. I would advise any and all users, who are able to, to change the CDA to /1 or /2, most people have someone near them who can do this for them at a very low cost.

The problem is that i'd lose chinese language support, meaning no more typing in chinese, no more chinese dictionary and no more chinese business card scanning.

There's no way to reinstall this onto /1 or /2, right?

I'm afraid i'd rather have a buggy phone than no chinese, its kind of important for my use and part of the reason i bought this particular phone.

Whats with the update rush?
Another firware, no idea what it does etc etc.

The reason for the rush is simple, this phone is so shite, people will try anything to improve it including untried Fw updates! (Early P990i users, gave up expecting it to do what it says on the box long ago)

I have just sent my phone off to the guys at seunlock to see if generic fw will improve it, if not? in the old phone draw it goes and I go back to my trusty P910i while I plan what I get as a replacement or maybe just stick with a P910 what are they fetching secondhand?
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

@nitro, sorry if yours is "shite" man, mine isnŽt lol

Anyway, if you look to forums of other brands, youŽll see the exactly same enthusiasm for instaling "untested" firmware...even looking to other phones from SE, like k800, everytime there is rumor of a new fw, people become crazy

@Ares
I already know why people rush to do the upgrades, the phone is crap without them!
I was answering sosojerk he's the one who wants to know why every one rushes to upgrade!
I see more and more people are starting to listen to what I have been saying since the release of the phone, it is not up the standards required for a business tool, for those who just want an expensive toy then I am sure they will feel it is more than adequate to their needs

Agree with you Ares. My P990 is fantastic and does everything it's suppose to do. I even don't need more ram, only more optimised opera so it stop crashing from time to time. With faultless opera I wouldn't expect anything more from this P serie.

Yes, Opera seems to be the weak link currently. I bought the P990 for use as a business phone. One of the most important things in a business phone is reliability and unfortunately SE flunked big time when they released the P990. However, things seem to be getting better, at this time I can't say the P990 is not reliable. Similar problems are plaguing all high end pda/phones and if I were to get a device now the P990 would still be my first choice.

OK. For those of us who needs a chinese character phone. Here is the good news for you. I went by the SE shop in Hong Kong tonight. I looked at the phone which was released last week. THey have a R9 software on there with a CDA/68. It seems a lot faster when i run it and it is a true SE certified traditional chinese character phone. I hold a /6 and cannot be updated. I may buy a new /68 and sell my /6. One catch. Most places are out of stocks.

Hi, after updating I get a problem with the radio. I did a autosearch. It found 7 stations and no shows 7 empty places which can not be used because already in use, but can not be deleted because they are empty. I can only manually store channels on the spaces starting with place 8. Already tried a new auto store but no way. The first seven places in the channel list are empty and not usable any more.

Anybody else such a problem and perhaps the solution??

greatings

@HKSEuser: Can't you just have the phone flashed to CDA/68? SE service centers should be able to do it, why should you have to buy a new phone unless there are differences in the hardware...Or unless you are not talking about a P990...

@derton: You should format the internal disk, do a master reset and do a fw update. Seems like you have a problem with the OS. Almost all of my problems with FM radio disappeared with the Jan. 2 update.
