Cool is'nt it mate. The volume is as high as the R1bC driver but not as high as the R1L drivers. The R1L drivers are louder. I've lost all my drivers cause my hard disk died lol. ANyways I'll mesaage you my MSN and Yahoo maybe we can co-ordinate.

The Sound Is astonishing but at high volume levels the megabass is crap the sound thru the speaker is also very much clear Thanks |

Well, here's something new that I have noticed. I've been doing some extensive editing and testing of the R1L and R1BC versions of PHF_2_Play. What's bugged me is that I can't get the distortion out of the driver. I've tried all sorts of changes and the results always seem the same. i.e. hissing gone, increased volume and distortion at max vol. So, I thought I'd delete PHF_2_play and see what impact it would have on the phone. Guess what, hissing is still gone but sound quality is still the same as when using any of previous or hacked versions of the file. So, it would seem that most of the changes we are making are probably corrupting file. In which case the phone probably ignores the file and does not use it. Try it yourself - delete PHF_2_play.apf from your phone (back it up 1st). All I have been doing is comparing and changing the 1st line in the R1L and R1BC ver of PHF_2 as they are very similar. From what I can tell there is a certain format expected in this 1st line and only 2 combinations are acceptable. This format seems consistent across all other drivers as well. The only real improvement I was able to make was by copying the 1st line from the R1BC to the R1L ver of PHF_2. This really makes a big difference in sound quality. Absolutely no distortion at all. But it does lower the max volume quite a bit. When comparing the rest of the contents in the PHF_2 file there are distinct differences between R1BC and R1L that are beyond me. If someone can figure out how this works we may actually come up with a real improvement. AKSD - your thoughts? Anyone else? |

seems like a problem with the signature bit. did you try the driver on the first page? less distortion. theres one problem with your theory if i install w550 driver i get crackly sound in mono that means the driver is being recognised althoug signature doesnt match. |

AKSD : Some files do work. I can make the R1L driver sound pretty terrible but can only do so by gradually increasing the values in the 11th,12th,13th, and 14th bits. I can even remove all sound to the headphones. eg. phf_2_FM.apf and PHF_2_Play.apf are very similar but if I copy PHF_2_FM to PHF_2_play I end up with no sound through my headphones. This at least confirms my belief that PHF stands for Personal Hands Free.
Anyway, yes I have tried your beta driver and no matter how hard I try I can't see the difference in sound quality or volume between it, the R1L version or with PHF_2_Play deleted. I have managed to get excellent sound with a modified R1L file but the volume is too low for my liking. Try it yourself - change the 11th,12th,13th and 14th bits from 00,00,00,00 to 01,01,01,01 in the R1L file and see what you get. If your not sure what i'm talking about compare the 1st line of most of the APF files and you'll see they are either 41,50,46,00,01,05,12,d4,00,00,01,01,01,01 or 41,50,46,00,01,05,12,d4,00,00,00,00,00,00. These are the only 2 combos that I can make work with either version. Most of the files in the acoustic dir are very similar in content and structure. I note that the R1BC version of PHF_2_PLAY has a completely different structure to previous versions or the similar xxx_x_play.apf files. This makes it hard to figure out.
I would be interested to hear what results others get by deleting PHF_2_Play? BTW - don't delete all the PHF_X_PLAY files as you'll end up with no sound at all through your headphones.

mongoose ever thought the number in play files are EQ setting veriables or anything along those lines?eg play2 = EQ number 2 (bass) prob not atal like this but im sure the number must have a veriable for a reason maybe u should mood all the files to the same and see what happens

btw i only put in the PHF_2_play.asf file on my phone and its great quility still a hiss and a crack every so often when in an amped hifi system. but thats not really a problem to me kinda reminds me of vynal

Could you please post your R1L driver? No matter if it has lower volume, perfect sound and perfect MegaBass maybe are enough.
