@maxwedge&nitrofan,so u guys mean2say that information on esato has more precise specifications than on the manufacturer's site. the information posted here is always copy/pasted from other sites. u guys mean to say that esato has more exposure to the prototype of a product than mobilereview,than mobileburn,than bengalboy.i don't think so. btw,i think se is just trying 2 compete with nokia.nokia made a non-camera smartphone 9300&se followed.

@etaab; as always I respect your knowledge, however in this regard I see no documentation of SE claiming that the P990i supports the A2DP profile for stereo sound streaming. I doubt the BT v1.2 that is listed in the link I provided is a typo ... I'm hoping it is really, but I doubt it. If you or anyone else can provide documentation of any of the two that states they support A2DP via BT V2.0 (and not v1.2) then I'll concede this battle of wits; but not until then.
You all will notice as of 2/19/06; SE still hasnt gotten either device certified for BT (http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&SortCat=QualifiedDate)
"white papers" consider the above link as the officiator of those white papers. They prove its compatibility & its authenticity. btw anyone have the white paper to the p990i??!!
PS - etaab you gotta give me tips on great photos with the K750 (loved the last few you posted of the countryside - the trees in the stairlike field). |

P990i has bluetooth stereo support and v2. See the SE press release announcing additional features for the handset;
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=pc&lm=pc3_1&prid=4638
Right at the bottom, on the 'Features at a glance' section you'll quite clearly see under the heading 'Entertainment', 'Stereo Bluetooth support'! This has been on the site since the 6th Feb guys!
Also, it's also quite clearly written that the version of Bluetooth used in the W950i is 1.2 in their initial press release (also under 'Features at a glance', 'Connectivity');
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=pc&lm=pc3_1&prid=4725
Obviously this could change upon release, but for now they're the facts in black and white! |

@ viper7 - I expect to see a change when more specification details are released, especially when the white paper does become available.
@ Prom1 - no problem mate, as i already said that initial press release supports what you say, and why would you not believe it since it has come directly from the SE website.
I assume you mean the W950i, even though in your last post you said the P990i ?
SE have made mistakes in the past when listing detailed specifications such as those provided by the W950i press release. Also, i know for sure i did read somewhere, probably in one of the links in this very thread, on the SE website it said it had Bluetooth v2.0. However, that too could be an error on SE's part.
Try not to think of this as a battle of wits, because it isnt, im not arguing this point with you, simply stating what i read elsewhere on the SE site. If its true, great, if not, not so great, but i wont feel like ive lost a battle of wits, because thats not what im doing.

@etaab thanks a million; I feel like I lost as it was just a phrase to coin; and I'm glad that you didnt take it the wrong way nor did anyone else whom (or is it who) replied. Now that you mentioned it I do remember some link regarding the W950i have BT v2.
@Viper7; my my thanks for the P990i link that was seriously needed; by me. Now its clarified.
Now I'm glad I ordered the K750i (finally .... had to please the family with 2 Nintendo DS', a K700i last year & a Moto hot Pink Razr for replacement, and new external HDD, Nike Hammer watch etc etc). It'll be my main as the z520i that I'm currently using will be my backup or given to my lil' brother in law.
The P990i is looking more & more juicy when I look at it ... so what there is no WiFi 802.11g & just the B standard thats good enough & plenty.
Is it me that feels like I'm rolling the dice awaiting the shipment of the P990i to begin ... officially while I'm saving for it. |

Not only that, all the major phone sites have it listed as Bluetooth v2.0 too. I find it strange how SE sometimes get these things confused, i think i remember prior to the K750i release SE also stated it had Bluetooth v1.1, when really it has v2.0.
We'll see when the official white paper is released (assuming they make no errors in its publication).
Isnt it strange how even as grown men, we still require the approval of our families to buy expensive items for ourselves. Its almost as if when you become an adult, the people in question assume your wants, needs and desires are lost.
As for the P990i's 802.11b, its better than no Wi-Fi at all IMO. Im wondering just how good it'll be, since im pretty much a Wi-Fi virgin, unless you count surfing the net on my PSP and old PDA.

I liked the pics on website of these 2 new phones, but seeing live pics from mobil.cz I think these phones look... ugly. Am I the only one?

Awful

the p990 is ugly as sin, but while I like my phone to be nice looking, if the ergonomics and spec's are there then I can live wothout it. The most stylish camera phone SE have released is the T610, but there's no way I'm going back to 2MB of memory and puny camera
The K700 was still quite stylish, but the K750 is a brick. But I still class the K750 as the best phone I've ever owned in it's class.
Okay P990 is good looking in a charles bronson/david carridine sort of way - rugged, tough, purposeful. But Brad Pitt it ain't.

I for one love the P990i's looks - its front face anyway.
I just hate the rear of the phone, and the top where the silo and IR port are - ugly as hell.
@ ayk - of course it'll see the light of day, it might be out sooner than we all think.

Phone style is such a personal thing, everyone is bound to be different in their preference for style. If you worry about whether you like a phone's looks or not you may have to forgo functunctionality in some cases. But if you happen to like the looks of a phone that does what you want then it's a bonus.
I'm being a bit harsh anyway, the only thing I really dislike about it is the same thing as the P910 - the flip should be a lot thinner. The P990 without the flip looks quite smick (still more rugged than pretty though), and if I owned one that's probably how I'd configure it, simply for the space saving aspect.

Hi AYK,
what is all this "you mean to say" attitude? please drop it it is not the way we like to do things here thank you. You are indeed entitled to your opinion, as indeed so I am I, and yes I prefer to have the information on one site rather than chasing around on wap to see the information. As for some of the other sources you mention, one at least is more interested in flashing flesh than than talking phones and that is of no interest to me BTW I can check the other sites anytime I like to see what their take is on esato Ii like to see what esato's take is, in my experience its normaly spot on!

I agree.
@AYK:
Obviously esato isn't the only source, but so what if it's copy and pasted. All info on esato forum comes from links, cut and paste, or member's own experience and research. About specifications, where else would one get spec's apart from the SE site anyway? Even other board's that retype the info into their own format still get it from SE.
I also think SE are entitled to bring out a cameraless phone, especially a phone such as the W950. They had their own reasons for bringing out 2 highend cameraless phones (m600 and w950) and neither of them compete directly with the nokia cameraless phones so your point doesn't carry. If market research indicates that some consumers want cameraless phones wouldn't any manufacturer be remiss if they didn't bring atleast one highend cameraless phone to market?
And let's not forget that they also pioneered camera's in phones in the first place? (T610 anyone?)
