right ive got a bone to pick!
so my mac is all singing all danicng, so why the hell does it not play DVDs??
ive put 3 retail dvds in the player and not a single one has worked. apple dvd players disc not supported and VLC jsut quits?
they were all region free music dvds. but that shouldnt make any difference should it?
or am mac clever enough to lock the dvd drive to only read region 2? if so can i remove the the region coding? as i got a lot of music dvds from the US. and would like to view em on here!
help me please!!

The drive isn't region locked to start with. The first time you put in a disk it will prompt you to set the region of the drive. You get 5 changes in total I think, then it is locked to the last region you set. But this shouldn't affect region-free disks.
These aren't the same DVDs you had problems with on your PC are they?
Try a region-locked DVD movie, and set the region of the drive to 2. Then try these region-free disks.
If you want a completely region-unlocked drive you'll have to flash the firmware with a hacked one. Have a look in Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > Hardware > ATA to see what your drive is.
Then have a look on http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php for a region free firmware. Note this will probably invalidate your warranty. Also, even with a region-free firmware, you'll still have to change the firmware, except that you'll be able to reset the 5-times only limit.

Hi Jools,
went there after posting the above message and it appears as though nothing can be done yet
as ive got a matsushita (panasonic) DVD RW Drive
no not the same dvds, these are new ones
also got me a small other problem now
ive downloaded a 700mb file that split across 45 rar files, but the only thing is, stuffit doesnt recognise that .r01 thru .r45 are all interlinked, ive been to rarlabs.com and they only do a command line version of winrar for macs!
is there any other archiving tool that a mac can use that will know that .r01 will link to .r02 and so on?
i sure hope so, or ive just wasted a good few hours!
cheers

I think msn is playing up again, I can't sign in even.
on the subject of DVD's, good old winders does the same thing, if you use all of your changes up you have to reinstall

@Dicky, MissC:
If you want to setup security on wireless routers without worrying about keys etc, then check your wireless router for "MAC authentication" (Just got a netgear myself, forget what its called in there though lol) and just work off the MAC (hardware) address of your PC/Mac.
It'll stop anyone freeloading off your wireless connection too |

Senuti is your best bet, but you have to tell it where to put the music by choosing 'Preferences' from the 'Senuti' menu, then click 'Copying'. There's also an option in there to automatically add it to iTunes.
By default it is set to copy the music to your users 'Music' folder. If you've already copied it check if its there...
Open your 'Macintosh HD > Users > (Your User Name) > Music' and hopefully it should all be in there. If so, open iTunes.
In iTunes go to "iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > General' and check 'Keep iTunes Music folder orgnaised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library'. Click 'OK'.
Then drag all your music into iTunes and wait while it adds it and sorts it all out for you.
Finally, you just have to make sure you haven't got two copies of all your music.
iTunes will store all your music in:
'Macintosh HD > Users > (Your User Name) > Music > iTunes > iTunes Music'.
Any other copies of your music can be deleted.
Hope that helps!
