That Krait name is very misleading, Qualcomm is fooling everyone. The s4 play dualcore is based on cortex a5 which is very very low-end. The single core in Xperia Arc is almost better. Cant believe Sony is using that shit instead of something like u8500 which is miles better

it's not Krait name that is misleading, it's "s4" name. Krait refer to only one CPU architecture which is used in e.g Xperia T, Nexus 4 ... whereas s4 refers to a series of soc whose CPU may include Krait but also cortex-a5, a7 ... and with GPU's ranging from adreno 203 to adreno 320 which is a huge gap.
so krait is only used in s4 SOC's, but Krait =/= S4 as S4 may include different CPU's
when it comes to c210x, it has a 1ghz dual core krait (the same cpu as xperia T but downclocked from 1.5 ghz) which is still great for a low end device, and an adreno 305, which should be as fast as the one in the Xperia S at the very least, but more than enough for a fwvga screen.

and i think it was confirmed somewhere that it does have Exmor RS. white magic is unclear and probably not true considering the comments about battery drain..

4.2 is also Jelly Bean, (Just like 2.1 was still Eclair) and no WhiteMagic,

So I guess the question to ask is, other than the design with Dragontrail glass and all, and the improvements in software, what else will Odin/Yuga have to draw potential customers over the tidal wave of 5" 1080p phones that'll be hitting the market along with it? Water/dust resistant + IR blaster are a great start. Expandable memory is great since some of the others lack that. The 13mp Exmor RS sensor is great, but it looks like others will be using it too. Dedicated shutter button is a great plus as well. Other than all that, what else does Sony have going for it to cause people to flock to Odin and Yuga? Are those few differences I listed enough? Hopefully this info about a new way of doing updates that'll be faster will be a big plus for those looking to buy a Sony phone.
Basically what I'm asking here is, if someone is looking for a new super phone in 2013, with the current popularity of Samsung phones, what will Sony have to draw people to them. Add to the list anything any of you know of |

Typically closer to stock Android than a lot of other OEM's.
Favoured a lot by developers due to Sony's open attitude towards AOSP |

Yep, but do we think this will be factors that appeal more to the mass market, or to people like us?
I guess for the mass market it won't only be the features, but how Sony decides to market the phone. I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing Odin or Yuga in at least one Sony movie or TV show. I must say that over the past couple of months I've seen a lot of various Sony ads everywhere. On the net I'm seeing them all over. I don't watch much TV, but when I do I've seen a lot ads. It looks like Sony is doing a lot to get their name back out there and I can imagine they'll put a lot of marketing power behind the upcoming phones. I suppose that will be one of the main factors in getting the mass market to consider their products.

The water resistant feature should do it if they market it. When people see me throw my phone in water they have this shock look on their face and can't believe what they seeing as if it's some magic trick. Everyone that sees it instantly wants my phone, from uPhone to S3 owners. Benchmarks? CPU? GPU? No one but nerds care about that crap, show the mass something different and they want it. Here in the US most don't even know water resistant phones even exist.
Let me work at AT&T or T Mobile if they carry the Yuga. I'll talk about the screen, camera, speed then drop it in water. Unless they were dead stuck on a uPhone or Samsung before they walked in the store they wouldnt turn it down. |
