I thought he'd said he would be on holiday for a few weeks so would help people as much as possible before he went (and presumably will continue when he ruturns). Can't find it though so might just be imagining it. Anyone else remember that?

i updated my via wotan first to R1ED001 and along with that to the new erom also.
After that I updated the to R1EG001 via SEUS.
But i still have the same old f****** up switch off problem in my K790i which was there right from the time i purchased it.
It switches off atleast 3 times in a day. Its too pissin off.
is there anything i can try or should iu go to the service center?
I thought the erom was supposed to handle wsod problems, strange im still having this prob

this one sounds like a hardware defect... does it freeze for no reason as well?

I echo this. Funny thing was my phone never did it for it's first few months, now suddenly the screen will flash to stand-by without warning. Pressing a key resumes whatever I was up to.
Admittedly, I have not updated my firmware, so there is a likelyhood that it has been solved, but a problem shared is a problem halved! |

On previous models, like k700, recommended a fully charged battery when updating fw from SEUS using the special table stand, but when you use the DCU-60 cable, I'm not quite sure it's necessary, since that cable normally also charges the phone. But to be on the safe side, I would still recommend to charge the phone before you make the update. |

always have 80% or more
what the erom is from "the_laser" himself
q: what is "erom upgrade" for db2020 phones (k610/v630/k790/k800/w850) and how to use it?
a:
semc gone crazy with security in db2020 phones, so if anything secure damaged (as they thinks) - EROM not starts phone and phone is completely dead.
in early EROM releases (R3A011 versions) SEMCsec developer done some error, because of that EROM sometimes can't setup GDFS good.
we will see it as RED BLINK during phone power on. and as "gdfs startup error:29" when we trying to flash it.
SEMCsec released then EROM updater, which is upgrade known EROM to new version. that new version solves red blink error (of course, if security units intact). i decided that it is not fair to keep that loader only for emma, so it is embedded in setool2 from now on.
usage is very simple.
select correct db2020 model.
check "use server" in settings (credits will NOT be deducted)
connect phone to COM/UFS cable (USB will NOT work)
press RECOVERY
EROM will be upgraded and your problems CAN be solved.
sadly, SEMCsec not released anything to correct problem, when security units or gdfs totally damaged. they fear of illegal usage

BTW, I updated my K800 from within the phone update service. Whole download (via 3g) and update process took about 30 minutes. While I was driving home from the work. Software installation took most of the time - phone restarted twice. Now works as good as before. The only think I really wished to become better was mp3 palyback volume and it indeed became after update. In general usage I didn't experience any problems even before update. Of course You don' t need battery to be charged by 100%. By my experience 50% charged is far enough.
peace

Well Im back did any one miss me.
Dont all shout at once.
Oh and my holiday was Gr8.
SE are very very popular in Greece, infact very pop indeed
Any way I have been quickly going through the thread and noticed my name mention a couple of times. (bless me)
But to answer one of the questions i know that is being asked and thi is EROM.
Now i have a done a little checking as ive only been back in the country a few hours, but the EROM still cant be performed through the SEUS. The EROM can still only be updated via the service centers or Wotan.
SEUS placed the update on so a few of the known faults would be fixed and resolve some of the peoples problems.
Regards the WSOD. The EROM is the fault and this would need to be updated.
Now please dont shout at me if this is not fully uptodate. But i will try and find out more when i know it.

Anyway, so how's this EROM story going next?

When I got mine 2 months ago, R1BC001,surely I got frequent WSOD. But then I took off the battery for at least 1-6 hours. I did it on regular basis ONLY after mine is 100% fully-charged. Believe it or not, no WSOD happened afterwards. When SEUS released R1ED001, I noticed that WSOD never happened up to now although I don't do the battery 'out' the phone so often. Also, when turning off and on my K800i, I noticed NO MORE WSOD, the screen just displays the logo and then 'off'. Before, in R1BC, I always saw this white flash before the screen shuts down. During navigation, I've never got any single WS0D at all ever since my update to R1ED. So, in what occassion will this EROM affect the phone? During charging, USB plug-in, file transfer, or turning on-off, never do I got this WSOD or red-blinking at all. All just went OK. Or any combination action that could possibly lead to it?
And about many events of 'operation failed' when accessing Applications and Games folders, is it also EROM-related? The big issue is why didn't ALL people experience incidents with this EROM-related stuff? Some did, some didn't. I guess, there's an 'X' imfetus factor. May be those affected have charged the phone when it's almost 100% dried-up or might unplug the charger while opening Java apps? Or taking out the battery too immediately when facing 'frozen menu' or else.. and the fact that SE releases R1ED001 without EROM upgrade must be well-thought, and intended, right? SE won't harm its users in case this EROM stuff affect the life of the phone..
So, personally, the best way is: just enjoy this handsome phone! Why bothers as no top problems we have so far? This R1ED001 is just awesome...really great. Or Am I just lucky? Correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps, a friend of mine was correct when he said 'buy the phone a year after the release as it is stable already'..
I'm sure the new owners of new-batch K800i will never be 'dizzier' about this EROM-GDFS 'conflict'..lol..

The WSOD is caused by a the GDFS (Phones own instructions)
When you plug the phone into the charger the GDFS tells the screen to come on, show chaging and do what it needs to. This is the same for everything and anything you plug in, Switch on / switch of etc.
However the GDFS and EROM seem not to like each other, or and not truely compatible. However from you removing the battery and doing what you have done, you may have saved your own phone.
Wha you hav been doing was issued to service centers as a Temp fix, before the EROM was issued.

Wow, still no update. Been away for a few days and was certain SEUS would have been updated by the time I'd got back. Obviously not. Oh well, what's a few more days, weeks, months!
