As a P910 user, I've been looking foward to the P990 for as long as anyone.
But I'm now starting to lean towards an iMate. The size is better, and as an Eve Online player I want a Windows Mobile 5.0 o/s for the mobile client.
To be honest I can't find a single reason why a P990 is better than the new 3G imate. Anyone? As a long-time SE fan, I'd love to be persuaded. Woo me! |

JForce: Yes, I have a reason - WM2005 just doesn't work. Couldn't wait to get rid of my O2Exec - its hard to describe just how poor WM2005 is! |

I recall vodafone saying that the price would match the p910i
Anyone heard some more about this?
or is this gonna be as expensive as p900 was released.

Excuse my ignorance, but are WM2005 and WM5.0 the same thing?
I've been trialling an iMate JAMin for a couple of weeks now, and it seems fine. Stable, functional, and the size is amazing compared with my P910. |

I lost my P910i about a month ago and because they're not available now I went for an iMate JAMin with insurance payout as I still wanted a single device for use as a PDA/Phone/Camera/SatNav use (as per my P910i).
Now I have had Pocket PC's iPaq 3970/O2 XDA2 before originally starting on Psions and also going through P800/P900.
After a month of use I managed to get myself a second-hand P910i and the JAMin's now up for sale.
The WiFi was nice but with built-in explorer browsing web is still slow. 2MP camera is good but does not make up for ease og use of the P910i. I have a 4GB SD so music playback is fabulous on JAMin (but I have a 4GB Nano so didn't use it).
I know that PocketPC has variety of input modes but I use handwritting recognition and find the P910i perfect. The letter recogniser isn't too bad on PocketPC but you still loose a large chunk of the screen.
Even though Windows Mobile is better than previous versions for stability it still does strange things and resets needed. Soon found my self delving into additional software to correct problems like duplicate alarms, backlight not remembering its default delays etc.
The P910i just works and with latest firmware never fails. I use my phone to wake me up in the morning and I just can't trust a Windows Mobile device.
From a Geek point of view I want a P990 (but why they dropped 5 way jog dial is mistery!) but until TomTom bring out SatNav software I think I'll be sticking with my P910i for now.

Looking at the current version of the UIQ on the M600i, trust me, the Windows OS looks very very stable indeed! |

Both P900 and P910i were about US$800 unbranded, when they came out. So I think the P990 will be there, too

Michal Jerz @ My-Symbian has posted today saying that he will be getting his release version review unit "in a few weeks".
Looks like a general release is not that far off afterall. |

The whitepaper ( http://developer.sonyericsson[....]0&template=ps1&zone=ps ) mentions a p990a ;)

| ...although as a M600i owner I'm finding it far more reliable and less buggy than the O2Exec (WM05) that it has replaced. Yes, it has loads of bugs, but WM05 has LOADS |

I remember the days when there was a discussion about this:
This is taken from from whitepaper:
The WLAN functionality is compliant with IEEE 802.11b (11 Mbps), and will work simultaneously with the P990i GSM, UMTS, Bluetooth connectivity and infrared interfaces.
Maybe somebody already posted but I havent seen it. |
