Rig it up in a holder of some kind and take some pics using the timer... outdoors on a sunny day if you can. Biggest problems are moving and poor lighting.

Make sure your lens ins't greasy and try ising the Document Mode. It enhances sharpness and contrast.

Have you got very unsteady hands? Try not moving as much as you can until pic has been processed. Sometimes when you take a pic & move sunddenly whilst its still processing it can be blurred.

Disable the stablizer.

Mate, check out this comparison, taken by me, between FA (full auto) and DM (document mode):

nice pictures man.
personally i think doc mode often produce to high contrast....i 99% of times us plain auto and they gets great.

if i had use doc here..it had been a bit darker (still razer sharp, but a bit to dark).......... i get nearly always best with auto mode.
