Yeah, and wasn't it them who disabled VoIP on the N95 as well when it was launched? Can't remember if it was them or Orange..
Either way, out of principle I'll go the extra mile to get a non-branded phone; thank goodness for places like Carphone Warehouse that have the financial clout to keep sim-free handsets on a par or less, price-wise, with branded handsets. A royal 'up yours' to all the network branders, LOL!

I don't get it though, why would they disable any feature on their phones?
Wanqs, well I didn't know there was a Hansie movie until now and I doubt I'm alone on this one, so I'm quite sceptical with regards to it being a hit...

@ gola:
Just found that both those networks disabled the VoIP feature on the N95 last year.
Why? You'll love 'em even more after reading this...:
"It's been found that the ultra multimedia, glossy and fully-featured Nokia N95 has had it's VoIP capability disabled by Orange and Vodafone.
Although there has been no official statement by Orange and Vodafone it is claimed that both networks have dodged the issue by removing the VoIP feature from the phone to prevent loss of revenue from standard calls.
Truphone, a VoIP application developer discovered that the VoIP software they supply for the handset only appears on models from selected mobile networks or as a purchase from the Nokia website. The company tried installing their VoIP technology but to no avail.
Each operator does have their own variant of the Nokia software pre-installed on the phone handset with their own branding or particular applications for the network. However, it has been taken one step further by not including a piece of key software from a key player in the VoIP market, Truphone.
T-Mobile has confirmed it is in no way restricting the use of the phone. The network that offers flexible web'n'walk packages recently introduced its Blackberry Pearl in white and will be launching its Wi-Fi service on the Heathrow Express next week."

...and Vodafone trying to 'justify' their decision :

Love how the other networks pointed out the BS that Voda fed customers:
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/commu[....]s/0,1000000085,39286764,00.htm
It kinda blows Voda's argument out the water, the fact that other networks are delivering it without any such concerns, and not the network that brags about being the biggest etc.

Some of Those networks are so full of crap. I remember when the N81 was released some Euro network said they weren't gona stock it because it came with Nokia's Music Store app which would mean people wouldnt buy music from the network's Music store.
Vodacom's C905 should have Wi-Fi since Vodacom have that whole Wi-Fi Roaming thing now as well where you pay normal GPRS rates to use any Wi-Fi hotspots.

Dogmann has put his X1 back-in the box and is going to get rid of it.He has a lot of good things to say about it but it appears that he just couldnt get past the overall smallness of the font on the phone.

I finally got skyfire to work, and wow! What a great browser that is, it loads the pages beautifully facebook works nearly like on a pc. I can do much more with it than i could with opera mini. And compared 2 the defaul browser it also beats it, tryin to open facebook with the default browser just is a mission for me. I dont enjoy it at all, but on skyfire its just simple, to move around and click on links takes awhile but im using gprs so i would think with 3g it would be much better. And youtube is alright the video plays but its not good its more like a picture slideshow. Maybe with 3g it would be better. Overall im enjoyin skyfire very much |

Thanks boet.
@ Hobbster:
Ya Dogmann's X1 was on eBay with a buy-it-now for all of 500; amazingly it was sold within a day or so for that.
I say amazingly, because they're available from Expansys and Mobilefun and elsewhere for the same money. Oh well, maybe the buyer had some Paypal credits or something, or didn't google that much.

Ill be honest here... even though the subject of that macro mode pic is superb... a+ class, i dont think the P1 did it justice... i cant put my finger on it, something about that photo is just off... (I dont think its a bad macro pic... especially since its a night pic... but something about the pic....)
