It would be great if you can post where you got your new firmware. My SE sevice cetre has nothing and SE tech desk also said there is no new firmware at all.
When I told her about posts on this site the SE lady told me people must be using 3rd party software.
How can SE themselves not know what is going on????

I've just come across quite a big bug in the R2L firmware. I was going to capture a concert on video with my K700 when, in the middle of filming, the phone display started blinking black and white. It restarted itself atleast 5 times in a row within 20 seconds.

Quite anoying...

I've been waiting for some weeks now for someone to post these 2 awesome changes in R2L001, but what do I see/read? Nothing!

I promised by god I wouldn't post no more, but since nobody actually noticed these things I'll make "one" exception just to incurage people to upgrade...

1. When connecting to GPRS, there is an icon of a new large globe displayed in the front window with lots of moons flying around it. It actually looks very nice!

2. The sms sound is now different when you recieve a notification saying that an sms has been delivered. This is very good since you now can tell if the sms you recieve is a "real" sms or just a "notification" of a delivered one without looking at the phone. The sound is the same as for bluetooth transfer notification and it can't be changed.

Over and out (hopefully)...

The change in GPRS icon has been noted before, but not the SMS Delivery notification sound change! I'll add it to the Firmware Overview page:

For all the text users out there - one problem that I have noticed (I don't know whether this actually relates to text or MMS notification) : when a message does not get delivered (i.e. timed out) the failed notification does not say when the message was sent i.e. if you send quite a few messages to the same person and one of them is not delivered you can't tell which one! It would be nice if the notification actually said when the message was sent rather than when it failed/timed out so that you have a chance of guessing which one it may be.

Anyone else notice that the battery gets really hot when on a long call? I think it's more than normal as I have a 8310 and that doesn't get so warm. I think this is another reason why the phone is losing charge so quickly...??

How about the fact that they removed the feature of having contacts automatically saved on sim when saving/editing contacts in the phonebook? You should put that on a list of downgrades! Also, now the clock that shows when the screen is dark now moves a couple of millimeters when pushing the volume buttons to display the time! That's annoying! It looks like the clock is "jumping" when the light goes on.

By the way, you can forget about that R2L has removed the sound notification when transfering files to the phone using bluetooth that your list states. The guy who claimed that had probably by mistake put his phone into silent mode!

Damn, I just made another post again! Well, since you all can't set things straight I just had to... final one though! Cheers folks!

flash my phone today to R2L001 in Malmo/sweden it took 30min and was for free. i have notice that the start up pic with sonyericsson pic lags sometimes and the animation lags to in meny sometime so it feels like the phone is slower but i need to test it some days first.

I call SE today and confirm that the latest version is R2L001 (2004-08-24)

I've experienced a similar problem too, but only when switching the camera on, and then turning it off immediately.

The phone looks like its restarting, but am not sure if it does. This is becuase I don't see the SE startup screen and logo. The screen just blinks for a while and the phone is back to normal.

Just got my K700i with R2L001 installed. (South Africa)

I love it except for the battery life and today this happened. Has anyone else found this:

After I type a text message, I select "Continue". It brings up the phonebook lookup. I select a number. If I click "Send", its fine. If I select "More" and then select "Advanced", the screen instantly goes dark and blank, then flashes a few times, varying from white to black (still blank) for about 20 seconds. The standby screen then reappears while it searches for the network. After this it returns to normal, but the message I have typed is gone.

Any ideas??? What is "Advanced" for?

@G5addict

I have experienced similar problems too while using the camera, and while looking for the advanced options while smsing. However, it doesn't seem to happen all the time. It's more like a random occurence.

FYI, I'm using R2L0001 in Singapore.
