The Category 1 themes were quite good on the whole and one or two really stood out, even the Category 3 themes weren't too bad, but the ringtones were awful. I do apologise to those Esatonians who took time to create them, but to be frank they were not pleasing to the ear. To be fair, most people probably have more experience with themes than ringtones, so one can't be too harsh.

I would just like to say, that I think it is really poor behaviour to slag the submissions. If you thought they were so bad you should've submitted something better and you might have won. If you could not do that, now isn't the time to criticize those who tried.

@Vlamm
I am not criticising the hard work and effort that people put into the various themes or ringtones at all. I thought all the themes were actually rather good, some better than others obviously, but still I found it difficult to choose between them when voting.
I still stand by my comments regarding the ringtones; I don't think they were that good. I see no point in praising them just for the sake of appearing nice, I am quite sure that the people who created them would rather an honest opinion than patronising pleasantries. As I said in my last post, I would imagine that most people do not have much experience in creating ringtones, therefore constructive criticism serves a valuable purpose. I think you will agree that I have not made any derogatory comments about any of the themes or ringtones; I have merely given an honest opinion. If I had wanted to I could have been rather insulting towards the ringtones, but I have absolutely no wish to do so, considering that people have put time and effort into them. Instead of being insulting I have given an honest opinion of those ringtones.
I do apologise if I have offended anyone, but as I have already stated, I believe in giving an honest opinion. If someone has created something that isn't that great and they want to improve, then simply being nice for the sake of being nice won't do an ounce of good.

My point is that some people invested time and effort in this competition, while MOST people have not. Even he none of the submissions will ever who a Nobel Prize, it would be a matter of common courtesy to respect the few people who did take time out for this competition.
Saying all entries are no good does not exactly help the spirit of 'fun competition' and will certainly make me think twice about ever participating in one again, if all people are going to do is tell how badly we all did. :-(

Right, made my way to a PC so I can elaborate a bit.
It's the following 2 comments that annoyed me:

Yeah me too, not alot to choose from, and the standard of some themes was really poor.

Apparenly there isn't a lot of artists willing to participate in this competition and that is fine. Still there were a few who dared to participate, some may be better skilled tha others and some may not have had a lot of experience in theming before. At least they were all brave enough to submit something. I cannot stress enough that saying 'they're pretty much all rather poor' after the competiton closed, just doesn't go. These are the submissions and they deserve some courtesy. Simple as that.

Look at the free themes download section here!! There are certainly some better themes than the ones of the competition(at least category 3)

This may suggest hat perhaps the themes submitted are not made by esato members... or simply that ppl didn't care for a competition. I don't know and I don't care.
Fact is that noen of those 'better' themes were submitted. deal with it.

I can't do midis either. I did try though, and they were all quite bad, so I chose not to submit. I have great respect for those that DID try though, as I know how hard it is to make one now
I posted a long way back in this thread that none of us are gifted with talent such as Moby's...... so the few people who had the guts to submit something, I salute them all

Sorry vlam I didn't mean to critisise anyone.. I respect ppl that spent time to make a theme and submit it (I did too). Also I didn't mean that I didn't like any theme! Actually there are some I really like
By my comment I only meant to point out that not many ppl care about the competition.
As for the midis, I can't say anything more since I wouldn't do anything better

hey iam only givin my opinion, ok maybe the way i worded it could have been better, and hats off to all the people like myself that took time to make theme's and ringtones (which i can't do),
but if something isn't great i don't think you should be false and say "its great i love it" because if people kept there thoughts to themeselves then things wouldn't get better,
the only way to progress is via learning from and one way to learn is from people giving you their input.
sorry if i offended anyone that was never my intention, i just gave a truthful opinion.

I do apologise for getting so damned defensive, but I thought you were aiming your comments towards my good self. I do agree with you that it is extremely impolite to criticise those Esatonians who have created themes or ringtones and have submitted them and I would urge everyone to give those people and their work the respect it deserves.
Having said that, I stated this before and my fellow Scot, Superluminova has also just made the same point, it is better to give an honest opinion of someone's work rather than platitudes. As I have repeatedly said, I think that the standard of entries for both the theme categories was of a high standard with some entries being very smart indeed.
I have criticised the ringtones, but I feel that it has been constructive criticism; certainly I have not been rude about any of them. I don't see a point in participating in these events if everyone says that everything is great, if something is bad then it's bad, if it’s good then its good. By being honest about them I believe that I am giving them and their creators the respect they deserve.

something else I'm wondering about... I'd estimate there are probably no more than then 10 to 15 ppl that participated in the whole competition...... I'd expect they'd all vote (probably have do so by now ) but just how many others do you all think will vote?

Well probably most ppl will vote.. I don't think that not making themes or ringtones means not participating at all.
