I am sure this is mostly directed at me as the most active moderator since I am able to be online so much of the day, so I will reply
you mention interference. I think the definition for the usage of that word in this context comes about due to certain members being unhappy that these days the forum rules are being enforced more rigidly (probably due to a moderator being online more), and that is happening not least because of threads like this which discuss "the Esato that once was".
I wonder how many members want to revert to the way it was a year ago which was the cause of several threads like this one being created?
As far as disuading members to post, I monitor almost every thread on Esato and I have not noticed any reduction in posting. Indeed I also monitor our statistics page which shows details such as this and again I see no significant change there either.
I believe I have had some impact recently in reducing the garbage posting thereby making the ratio of quality (well, mobile related) posts relative to the number of garbage posts much higher. If this is disuading members to post them I am for it.
However, I/we are always happy to hear criticism (or indeed praise) of our efforts by members and will take on board whatever is said in that regard

I believe I was the reason for all the garbage posts
I think rather than locking my thread, a simple PM saying "We appreciate your posting but we wwould prefer that your posting be more constructve" would have been enough to shut me up, too.
After masseur PM'ed me about my incessant threadjacking I stopped that, so why couldn't I have had a PM about cutting down on garbage posts? Any why delete a thread with 350+ replies when there are hundreds of other garbage threads????

@masseur
I accept your point concerning the statistics, but I was meaning that members may be dissuaded from posting a reply if they feel that their reply, though intended to be cheeky and light hearted (that reminds me of someone, I wonder who ... ? ), will be viewed as rubbish (garbage).
I would also like to make the point that newbies are posting more questions than ever before that could very easily have been answered simply by searching; this in turn leads to less discussion and debate as other members then have to reply to those questions. This phenomenon also has the possible effect of causing resentment and annoyance amongst newbies if no one answers their question, because more established members have become sick of answering the same questions time and time again.

After reading this thread, the main point, it seems to me is your (500+) problem is with newbies (me) asking reapeated questions.
Now i accept this is annoying but as pointed out in earlier post, search can be long haul if you do not specify exactly what you want. So i believe this is why newbies give up and ask these same questions.
Some statements made are un-palatable but this is a minority imho, for the most part esato is a great site and judging by membership deserveredly so.
Mind you when i look back to when i was 14 years old i think they were good times, so in 1 years time will people start this thread again!
